You dont know that as stated the distance and time factor would have been the same and besides. how do we know that once outside the police station she turned around and went in the opposite direction ?

Uncharacteristic behavior, (if the quiet couple stories we here are true), just prior to being murdered is significant. It has to be. What influenced that? I think it might just mean that Kate was on her own that last 24 hours, with people that she knew, people that were dangerous,.. and its because she sought money from them. John kept his own nose out of it, even at the expense of his own partner.
Thats pure speculation of your part !

    • Actually Trevor its just an obvious conclusion, she wasn't headed to see Kelly, dictated by the simple left or right choice. I suppose a double cross, about face once outside is within the realm of possibilities, but not the most probable Id say. Its already proven to be correct isn't it...she did head to Mitre Square....

She turned left towards Houndsditch and in the direction that she got drunk and had been hoping earlier. It wasn't the shortest way back to Flower and Dean Street. According to Henry Hutt's estimation it would have taken her around eight minutes to reach Mitre Square.

She was seen by Harris, Levi and Lawende at the Duke's Street entrance to Mitre Square around 1:35 a.m.

WHY DID IT TAKE HER 27 MINUTES TO MAKE A JOURNEY THAT SHOULD HAVE TAKEN HER EIGHT?

What you mean to say Leanne, ''is a women whos clothes were similar to the deceased was seen by Harris Levi and Lawende''. None of those 3 could actually identify that women as Catherine Eddowes at 1.35 am .

Now it may well be that its was Eddoews , but for the benefit of some who wish to have Eddowes entering Mitre square from another direction, this fact for the purpose of their argument allows them to do so .

WHY DID IT TAKE HER 27 MINUTES TO MAKE A JOURNEY THAT SHOULD HAVE TAKEN HER EIGHT?
I do however agree with the above , just where was she from 1.00 am to 1.30 am .?
Im yet to find a positive id. from anybody saying they saw her in that time , true she could have been seeing to a client before she got to the square who didn't wish to come forward. But we dont know that for sure do we .

Her body was discovered 15 minutes later, a few steps away.

She wasn't murdered 15 minutes later. He body was DISCOVERED 15 MINUTES LATER!

              • If you believe a woman wearing similar clothes was seen and it wasn't Jack & Kate but another couple, do you believe Jack and Kate were already in the square, or was Kate still ssssssssssssslllllllllllowly walking from Bishopsgate station?

I'm not even sure that she'd have known were Kelly was. With little or no money, it would have been pretty much pot luck whether he'd have found a doss-house, even.

                          • I know people are going to say that the passage to the orange market was blocked, because in later maps it seems to be, but in this crime scene sketch IT WASN'T!

just saw Gareth's post, wrote what I was thinking, as in "would Kate have known Kelly was at Cooney's?"

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. Plus, of course, surely she'd have known that the chances of getting a room/bed in a lodging house at that time of the morning would have been minimal. Especially if she had no money.
