  • Poor Jordan. He asks a little advice from the FEMALES on the site and he is subjected to some very murky smut and point scoring by alpha MALES!

Just go ahead and ask her for a date. If she turns you down just move on. I was definitely not looking for love when the love of my life turned up. He just popped up from nowhere and the first attraction for me was his brain! We have had almost thirty years of complete happiness - despite some very difficult times along the way. Our partnership is not a battle of the sexes - it started when I sunk into his arms and I ended up with my arms in his sink !

    • Well, clearly sexism isn't a male exclusivity.

      • Hi Maria. I've been wondering where you went to. Was gonna e-mail you today when I saw your post. I know what the word is supposed to mean, I merely meant that post (meaning after) and modern (meaning now) combined sounds like it SHOULD mean futuristic.

        Yours truly,

        Tom Wescott

        • Jordan

I'm getting the impression that Jordan might be too shy right now to actually ASK the girl for a date to her face. If this is the case, here's what he should do:

Transpose the following note onto a piece of paper. Carry the same pad and a pen into the restaurant and have them on your table (so it won't look like you carried in the note pre-written). Make sure you're seated at her table.

(Girl's name), my name is Jordan. I would really love to talk to you outside of these walls. I would have asked for your number, but I figured you wouldn't want your co-workers overhearing and getting the wrong idea. Text or call me when you get a chance. (number).

Either she will or she won't. If she doesn't, and you really like the restaurant, keep going and pretend the note never happened unless she mentions it.

          Yours truly,

          Tom Wescott

            • No problem, Tom. I've just been sick for a few days. You can still email me at all times, it's never a bother. I've posted something pertaining to you in my post #189 in this thread, I doubt you've managed to see it.
The “post“ in “post-modern“ refers to distance (emotional distance). Essentially “post-modern“ has the same meaning as “subversive“. BtVS is “postmodern“ in reference to the vampire saga. “Futurist“ means “crazy about the future“, as in having great hopes about the future and technology. Obviously this trend went away in the 1990s. The Initiative is a textbook futuristic organization.
As per your advice to Jordan, it's a bit too secret agent-like. I've already given him 2 better tips.
              1) Keep going to that restaurant and chatting her up, get her phone number and start texting her (casually). Ask her out per text. Rejection per text is harmless, not even to be considered as final.
              2) Find out her music/movie tastes and ask her out to an “un-date“ to a movie/concert, without her even noticing that she's on a date. Then, heat up things subtly and gradually. Repeat as needed.
              Best regards,
              Maria

you know actually where the myth come from? from stupid claims such as "girls know their own body so they do it better than guys obviously", and this is just bullcrap, because female masturbation is not as common as for men, so when girls start to get it on, they mostly know NOTHING about their own body, they still have everything to learn, sooo men and women are on the same level for that matter! and you're right!

Ahh, but being a cunning liguist... is an addition to the attraction I would wager :-)

                      "principe de précaution"=“precaution principle“.
"ingérence humanitaire"=“unmanageable humanity“, both in the financial/resources sense and the existentialist approach.
Hi Maria. My French is admittedly very rusty, but I thought "ingérence humanitaire" meant "humanitarian intervention", of the type the U.N. carries out.

Tom, "Postmodernism" is a term used in Art Criticism, and I come across it frequently in my work. It's rather amorphous, having multiple and sometimes contradictory meanings (which is kind of hip and postmodern in itself ).

The basic definition of 'Postmodern' is: "Of or relating to Art, Architecture, or Literature that reacts against earlier Modernist principles, as by reintroducing Traditional or Classical elements of style or by carrying Modernist styles or practices to extremes."

                      Best regards,

And apologies to Jordan, who has probably already figured out that he is an intelligent young man perfectly capable of asking a young lady for a date, and is that his social life is probably way more interesting than that of some posters on this thread!

As for people warning other people about him, I don't think he should have a worry. Usually people are pretty enough capable of making up their own minds.
Thanks for that, Maria. Hopefully Sister Hyde reads your words, because she does in fact seem to believe what she's read from Babybird (see below).

Thank you, Sister. I'm not a raging chauvinist, I only play one on the Casebook.

no sweat. There's certainly no need to overdramatize.
