  • Steady:

Paul McCartney? Pfft. He should have read out the final scores while he was on stage! But seriously, that would have been a great experience.
It was a very sneaky win by the Lions as well, a goal to seal the game in the final seconds.

Semi-confident about the Carlton game, but suspect we will get our backsides handed to us on a platter when we play St. Kilda. Where's Phyrne to gloat about his Bulldogs?

Nothing else exciting down here i'm afraid....it's wet. Very wet. Am happy with the free car wash, though.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

    • It's so hot and humid here now...not digging it at all.. nor is my cat.. i can tell by how mad he seems to be at me when i get home from work....well that and he likes my girlfriend more than he likes me, and she only stays with me on weekends... of well....

It is hard to believe there are only 3 weeks to go in the season eh? quite sad really.. as my Baseball season is comming to an end too.. and i;m not a big fan of American Football and my love of Hockey is gone (yu probably dont get much NHL coverage in Australia anyway huh?) lucky my favorite sport is boxing and that is year round (no pun intended).

You know what. I need a vacation hahah.

Swap you the heat for the cold? lol
We do get a bit of hockey down here actually, not a bad sport.

Meanwhile, i'm back to sulking after our atrocious performance today. I'm convinced that if we could reunite Richmond's 1980 premiership team, they'd still be able to do a better job.

        Hope your Lions go alright....

        Cheers,
        Adam.

        • Oh I will take the cold over the heat anyday... but you must rmember I am from Buffalo... the land of winter...

looks like we both had another good week huh?what gets me is that Brisbane actually put up a good score (97 points not bad boys) but still lost....oh well... so far as neither of us are in last place we are still ok... and hey there is always next year!.... and I am thinking I will try to get there for a game or two next season... if I can.

So you do get a bit of Hockey huh? I grew up playing hockey... my father had my brothers and I on skates before we could even walk...played for many years.. and wow was I bad at it .....but my love was boxing and that is what I put all of my energy in... and I do have to say... I was quite good at that....but oh that was a lifetime ago...

Ok bring on the bombers... I am feeling good about this weekend!!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you but St. Kilda is gonna be a tough one for ya.... best of luck..

          talk to ya soon..

          • Oi! Don't forget those magnificent Blues (Sorry Adam).

Steady, do get in touch if your trip includes Melbourne. I'll show you Melbourne's magnificent culture. Well, the best pubs, anyway

            • Phyrne, I thought you were a Dogs supporter? (Although i'd be hiding the fact that I was a Dogs supporter after last weekend's performance too....heh, heh....)

And yes, Steady, what Phyrne said about you coming down this way....

              Cheers,
              Adam.

              • Thanks both of you.. I will be sure to do that if I can make the trip.... which I do so want to do!! Just please tell me it's not like a Mad Max movie or anything (Just kidding.. but I had to make the joke as Road Warrior was on last night!)... but oh I will look you all up if and when I get there.

How about them Blues eh?.. been a while Phryne how have you been?

ok.... I must get to bed now as I just got back from taking my girlfriend to a big Fair here, and well I'm not as young as I use to be.... and she is (she is only 24.. yikes) and it makes me tired just pretending to have the energy I once did.

Hope everyone is having a good week and look foward to hearing from you soon.

                • Just hope you can put up with/understand our accents, Steady!

Don't worry about Mad Max, just bear in mind that the cool people ride emu's down the street, not kangaroos....and if you don't know the words to every Jimmy Barnes song, you're in trouble.

                    • Phyrne:

No, you're right, best not to mention that - or those vicious, blood-sucking, flesh-eating, horrid creatures known as the "wombat".....

Coincidentally, I've actually been to a forum meet-up in Melbourne before, though that was a few years ago and was for a military history forum....we met up at the Duke of Wellington. Don't know that we have enough Australian members in the area to do something similar again, but it might be worthwhile keeping it in mind incase it's possible in the future.

                      Cheers,
                      Adam.

                      • I'm up for that, Adam.

Unfortunately the poor ol' "Jooker", as we used to call it, is no more. Part of the shell's still there, but a couple of years ago THEY (ie poxy greedy developers) knocked half of it down and built a bloody great apartment block on top of the remains. As far as as know (haven't been past it for a few months) it's still sitting there stripped of all its fittings and interior walls, growing increasingly shabby . I loved the Jooker.

In fact there are very few real pubs left in the City - they've all been turned into tappas bars or worse. Even the lovely old Young & Jackson's and the Waterside (which used to be my 2nd and 3rd favourite Melbourne pubs) have been turned into yuppified horrors.

Still, I expect we'll find somewhere to have a beer

                        • Ok.... so it's not like a Mad Max film...but is it anything like a Yahoo Serious film?? (I shouldnt joke.... I actually like Yahoo's films.... all three of them )

And oh I'm sure there is someplace to find a beer there...isn't that like your national drink? (sorry... couldnt resist) however I would like to know what kind of Beer you like.... never talked to an aussie who drank Fosters....and well.. I do kinda like Fosters... met a few who were Budweiser drinkers... seems odd to me for some reason.

and the accents... oh i can deal with your accents.... it's mine that will drive you all crazy... because of where I live I have a wonderful half New York/ half Canadian accent.... fun sounding accent to be sure.

lets see what else do I know about Australia.....hmmm you have the largest collection of things that will kill.. snakes, sharks, poison fish etc, hmmm you have the best version of football on the planet (see the past 100 and some posts for more info on that).... and...... Jeff Fenech... remember I am a boxing guy after all.....

well...almost game times eh? good luck to ya all this weekend..... mark my words.. I'm having a great feeling about my Lions this week

have a great weekend and talk to you all soon I hope..

What? The DOW is no more? I didn't know about that, that's terrible!
It really was a very nice pub, great place to meet up.

Well then, I guess we've always got the choice of The Crown? Then we can watch Steady telling us how much cleaner the Yarra is than the Hudson....heh, heh, heh.

                            Steady:

Nobody drinks Fosters down here that I know of either. It's a myth. You'd probably be going for one of Boags, VB or Tooheys.....I'm not a big fan of beer myself, prefer Canadian Club or Mercury Cider or Bundaberg.....but Tooheys is probably the best of those 3 beers. Being Victorian, Phyrne might prefer his VB, though?

By the way, if you do see an AFL game down here at any point, make sure it's at the MCG and not Etihad.....much nicer ground, and can fit 100,000 people when full.

                            Cheers,
                            Adam.

                            • No, I don't know anyone who drinks Fosters either. I drink VB or Carlton mostly, or if I'm in Sydney Reschs. I've never been to the Crown - it's in the casino, yeah? There are a couple of proper, old-fashioned pubs left in town if you'd like the experience, but the Crown would certainly have better views.

I second Adam's comment about the 'G, steady. Gotta experience it if you're here: it's awesome.

Good luck to you two for this weekend. My mob's already had their thrashing.

Yeah the Crown would be alright, though it'd probably be pretty busy there....

We've had our beating for the weekend as well, though not entirely unhappy with the performance. Hope that Cuz can get up for his last game next weekend.
