  • Ausgirl:

Yeah they were the good old days in a lot of ways when we Tigers were the dominant team. Players only have to brush one another these days and it's a couple of weeks on the sidelines.

Probably most Tigers supporters have become a bit lax, I think we're all just sick of failure aren't we? Two finals series in the past 15 years, and none for a decade. Ouch. But don't worry, a few good wins under the belt and they'll start coming out of the woodwork again....

Actually hope they get Ben Cousins and particularly Richo back involved in the club in some way, that'd give the guys a big lift. Richo is probably the only reason a lot of Tigers fans stayed loyal over the past couple of decades, haha!

Anyway, yes, definitely welcome to the forums and I hope you enjoy it here (by the way, where abouts in Oz are you from?)

    Steady:

I promise that the pic is on the way, lol, and the Lions goodies from down here - very hectic these days but i'll be getting the new computer in the next couple of weeks and will get everything sorted out then.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

    • Steadmund, you are a rare breed indeed - an American who enjoys watching the big men fly! I could never get my head around American football. All that padding. Wusses. And the stop-start of it is hard to enjoy after being used to Aus rules' continuous play. I am assured by my friends over there that -one day- I'll come to appreciate it. That, and orange American cheese. I have my doubts. I -may- become a baseball fan though - I just read a biography of Ty Cobb. What a character!

And I have never been to the States. That's definitely on the one-day list, though.

Adam, I live in the shadow of Pentridge, at the moment. I did the tour before they closed the old place down. That was an eye-opener, indeed. The original cells were a real insight into what life was for criminals back when; i.e., pretty bloody awful. I swear I bumped into a ghost, too, down in the underground cells. Gave me a right shiver.

And you're spot on about Richo. I've been saying morale is the problem for years - that and selection, though we could have done worse.

      • Hey Ausgirl,

What an interesting place to live, although it definitely would be scary at times, and hardly surprising if ghosts did lurk around a place like that. If you haven't done so already, it's worthwhile checking out the Old Melbourne Gaol as well, which also happens to be where Frederick Deeming was imprisoned and later executed (not to mention Ned, of course) - that's a pretty eerie place as well.

I'm lucky enough to be in not only Richo's home state, but pretty close to Richo's home town. Have met the man several times in person over the years, good bloke.

        Cheers,
        Adam.

        • Speaking of Richo's home state and scary old gaols - I've toured Port Arthur, too, and was stuffed down an isolation cell by a bunch of hoons who held the door shut on me for half an hour (charming lads!). I cannot imagine being in that dark, dark hole for six months - after half an hour I was befuddled and quite terrified. Of course, this appeased all morbid curiosity enough for me to cheerfully enjoy the rest of the place, lovely ships and things not related to psychological torture and sense deprivation. A truly beautiful area. I've been meaning to head back for some years now.

          • Hey Ausgirl,

Port Arthur is a fantastic and interesting area. I haven't been there since I was a young boy (incidentally, the last time I was there was about two weeks before Martin Bryant went on that hideous shooting spree there in '96) but I remember being terrified at having to walk across wooden planks a couple of metres above ground to cross from certain parts of one building to another because the original walks had disintegrated. Certain buildings are rumoured to be haunted as well, naturally.

If you ever do come back over this way, make sure you visit Campbell Town as well - aside from the fact that it's a beautiful town and one of my favourite spots in Tassie, it's got the "convict walk" memorial.

            Cheers,
            Adam.

P.S. Meanwhile, it's a great day for us Tigers fans, because at the moment we can say..."Hey, at least we're not Melbourne!". 186 points.....LOL.

As for Richmond, more of the same old, same old i'm afraid....

OK, Lions and Bears are the same, but welldone nonetheless.
Particularly the Tiges for downing Sydney and increasing our chances of a finals berth.

                      • Hey Steady,

Nah the Lions will avoid the wooden spoon this year, Port Adelaide have already reserved that for themselves.....so the only way is up from here lol.

Meanwhile the mighty Tigers have won their last 2 in a row.....pity it's at the wrong end of the season when we're out of the finals race!!

                        Cheers,
                        Adam.

                        • Well another season down... 4-18 is not the record I would have picked at the beginning of the year but hey.. no wooden spoon so I guess it's ok

And hey... my Yankees are in 1st place again anyway.. so not all is bad in Steadmund's world of sport

I hope everyone is doing well and we can keep this thread going during the off season...

                          • Well, we've got about one more week before our season's over.
Well done to the Yankees (I thought Oriole was a biscuit).

So the Yankees jersey can be worn with pride at the moment then?

Wasn't a particularly memorable year for the Lions or the Tigers - I DO think we've improved this year and won 3 of our last 4 games but there's still a hell of a lot of work to do before we're a genuine threat in the finals.

Far be it from me to blame the umpires for some of our losses, I will admit that I was also very, very annoyed to read that out of all 17 teams in the competition, the Tigers copped the most free kicks against them this season.....the wrath of Jeff Geischen (former Richmond coach, and a crap one at that, now boss of the AFL umpires) shows itself, perhaps!

Anyway, hope you're all well, and good luck to the Yankees.....

                              Cheers,
