The laugh a minute stuff in the Scotland Yard suspects file regarding MrS (aka Sudden Death ho ho ho) with pantomime buggery in hospital wards etc throws up a couple of interesting facts. One is that Stephenson was living in a lodging house at #29 Castle Street in the St. Martins Lane area in 1888.
Here's an 1880s map showing Castle Street. It's in the bottom right quarter, just north of Long Acre.
Castle Street is now called Shelton Street
Here is today's #29 Shelton Street, the building beyond the drainpipe. The red doorway is 29B, the one to its left 29A. So this is a photo of where Stephenson was living in 1888, for what it's worth.
