Hello Neil. Did he merely affix his signature or actually interject comments?

      Cheers.

      • Phil,

The majority was drunk on duty, usually after so many warnings.

The worst was Hutt who struck a prisoner whilst in the dock at Moor Lane court. Others include bribery, assaulting a sergeant/fellow constable, neglect of duty (usually being caught in the pub) and AWOL.

        Lynn,

Mostly he (Smith) initials however if he has something to say he will do.

The one that springs to mind is again Hutt, who asked for a parchment of reccomendation. Basically Smith noted upon Hutts records, in red ink, that he thought Hutt was a bit cheeky in asking for one (after what he had done at Moor Lane) and that he wasnt going to authorise it.

Hello Neil. Thanks. Looks like he had no difficulty articulating how he felt.

          Cheers.

I suspect that, even off duty, it would be frowned upon somewhat!
I won't always agree but I'll try not to be disagreeable.

                • This is my understanding of the beats of Watkins and Harvey.

                  • Hi Rob,

                    Thats what I have also.

They worked a left handed short beat.

Looking at those beats. If there's one tempting part of Harvey's beat to bypass its the passage way from Duke Street to Mitre Square.

                        • Total surmise but if Mitre Square really was a set-up and Harvey left the bottleneck uncapped? I've always wondered about the shortness of the time interval between Harveys alleged momentary appearance at Mitre Square and Watkins discovery of the body....

It'd be interesting to know how many H Division and/or City coppers were disciplined for infractions that Autumn...I suspect with some individuals human nature will out even under the most pressured circumstances.

                            • It would be interesting indeed also to know how many left because they couldn't hack the pressure. I know that my sister worked with one of the officers on the Soham case and he lost the plot.

Well, looks like a 2-3 minute interval. Best estimate for Harvey was about 1.42. Watkins looks like 1.44 or 5.

                                Not too wide.

                                Cheers.
