Time seems to have stood still in the centre of town since they dug that huge hole for the new shopping centre that failed to materialise.

And as a Bradfordian, I'm allowed to say that....

I'm glad it wasn't, but unfortunately that just means some other poor person is going through it now. Must be terrible for those who live in the apt building; how can it ever feel like home again?

You've a real talent there for making something absolutely awful, look rather nice! Apparently they're grassing over the non-excavated parts of that land to make a "park". Sounds like the Westfield company are going to be a while before they commit to building in Bradford.

Obviously, recession or not, the Shepherd's Bush one in London got built didn't it? They know where to put their money....

A thought that crossed my mind earlier was given the fact he was studying 19th century murder in Bradford, might he use some of the locations where people were dumped back then.

Interesting thought, who knows how much his study of crime has led/influenced him in his own crimes...

Regarding the Stephen Griffiths case in Bradford.

As you can see, Im not exactly a regular poster here!!! But I do drop by alot more often than I post.

I have held back on mentioning this information on any forum until now, but as I now see that a quick search of the net will reveal the same information to anyone, I will post it here. Sorry, but I feel I kinda have to get it off my chest, say it/type, it as were. As I say, a net search search showed me that this info is already in the public domain, so apologies if it is already old news to you.

I live in Leeds, born and bred. The "Yorkshire Ripper" cast a shadow over my childhood, as it did for many of my generation. Back in the late 80'/90's there were a number of murders of prostitutes and (in the awful and sexist language of all too recent past, that now seems like another era, "Good time girls"). Kenneth Valentine was convicted of the "manslaughter" of one of them, her name was Janet Willoughby. Some of the other girls drank in the same pubs/bars as Janet, they knew each other/mixed in the same circles etc, I always felt that Valentine got away with alot more than he was charged with. He was cleared of Janets murder, but found guilty of sexually assaulting her and her manslaughter. He got 7 years!!! He was out in 5!!!

He then moved to Bradford, he got a flat in the converted "Soho Mills". In October 1996 he killed 25 year old Bradford prostitute Caroline Creevy in his flat. His neighbour, living in one of the flats below him was none other than Stephen Griffiths!!! In 1998 Valentine was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 22 years. After the murder "Soho Mills" was renamed "Holmfield court".

Having a serial killer living upstairs from him must have been a "thrilling" and unfortunately influential experience for Griffiths. It would seem that by murdering a woman in his own flat he was emulating the previous killer.

Apparently sick minds think alike.

Yes, I totally agree with you. Oh and thanks for the reply by the way. I've been carrying this info around with me and I just had to let it out, tell someone about it etc. Turns out that chummy went to the same Uni as me, Leeds!!! Thankfully he graduated the year before I started and he majored in Psychology, I majored in History (and drinking!!!) but I did take Psychology as my elective!!! so you can see why I was more than a touch worried when I heard that he was a Leeds Alumnus!!!
