  • its no longer boring....shawlgate!!!

After weeks of boredom on here with only the exciting debate about cross/lechmere to stop us from having to watch paint dry it is now no longer boring we now have shawlgate to stimulate us .Getting ready for thousands of posts between people accusing each other of bending facts we are bound to have some people announcing their departure on pub talk. This going to run and run it is, no longer boring on here officially.UPDATE .....my wife things it might be true or it might not be true I can feel the tension and drama rising already.

Damn. Stuck in the states. How I'd love to hear these discussions sitting in the Ten Bells in the coming autumn nights over an amber somethinorother.

I think this is bound to end up in the pub car park in one good old fashioned brawl we nearly had murder over the Swanson margin notes a few months ago but this could end up in world war 3.

In fact a new record was set yesterday for most people online on this site at one time.

                      meta-commentary on the debate:

I have long maintained that when we discuss the Maybrick diary, we spend too much time in the weeds of diary provenance, when in fact the content of the diary (in my view) largely makes it unlikely to be authentic, making the dating of the paper itself less relevant. Likewise, here I think the claim that a shawl was found at the murder scene, covered in blood and semen, and given away to a police officer's wife who never washed it, to be so absurd that I can rule out the authenticity of the shawl without even taking a look at the DNA evidence aspect of it.

A few more days of this nonsense and maybe people will realize how much they miss the Cross/Lechmere debate.

It did? Seriously?? Nah - surely not

As for Shawlgate - bound to be b******s. Anybody who doesn't immediately react with deep suspicion upon reading the phrase 'cutting edge techniques' in the Mail is too trusting by far.

But is the authenticity [or otherwise] event the point? The publicity around the shawl and the extraordinary claims made on its behalf pretty much guarantee book sales don't they? That's what it's all about.

Now, if only somebody could 'discover' a long-lost unwashed cloth-based trophy obtained from one of the victims and kept in an old shoe box in the attic of the maternal descendant of Crossmere's secret lovechild with Mary Kelly...

He wouldn't look so innocent then, would he??

I'm going back to the paint.
