I quite like making a pumpkin soup with the innards of the scraped out Halloween decoration.Originally posted by Herlock Sholmes View Post
Hi c.d.
I talked to an American friend earlier this year and he was quite surprised that I’d never actually eaten pumpkin. Does anyone from the UK ever eat pumpkin?
It's a once a year thing though.

We used to grow them. I think the reason they're not common is as they grow like weeds - very quickly, taking over everything. This is why they're grown in huge patches. I reckon Britain is a bit small for this and we prefer other crops. Can't remember if I ate it but I'm sure I did.Originally posted by Herlock Sholmes View Post

My mother made pumpkun pie for Thanksgiving, but used the canned pumpkin. I like pumpkins in pies, but rarely have it otherwise. I'm in the US.Pat D. https://forum.casebook.org/core/imag...rt/reading.gif

There are a lot of recipes on the internet. Or failing that you can buy them. A lot of grocery stores here in the U.S. have them. People also sprinkle raw (store bought) seeds on salads. Very nutritious. They are also very big with baseball players here in the U.S.Originally posted by Ms Diddles View Post
Ooooh, I'm going to try this!

herlock pumpkins are a huge deal in the fall here in the states. we make pie and soups out of them, bake the seeds in the oven for a treat, and nearly every house around Halloween has pumpkins and carved jack o lanterns on their porch and front steps. Pumpkin spice flavored everything has become a cliche here, there are pumpkin festivals, punken chunken contests(competitions where people fire pumpkins from home made catapults) and pumpkin patches everywhere. I used to have one in my backyard. And of course the famous peanuts cartoon..Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown! which is tradition to watch on the telly here every Halloween. and the story of Ichabod Crane and the headless horseman and movie Halloween both feature jack o lanterns prominently!Originally posted by Herlock Sholmes View Post

And of course The great tradition of smashing pumpkins(which is also the name of a popular band here) on Halloween night.
Smashed pumpkins all over the place the next morning lol.

Ive seen Pumpkin Spiced Latte over here but I hate milky coffee so I’ve never tried it but I just had a quick look online and at least one of our supermarkets sells pumpkin pie and another sells spiced pumpkin soup. So there must be more pumpkin-based food available here than I was aware of. Then again, I only do ‘Manshopping,’ which doesn’t involve a whole lot of browsing unless it’s in the beer section.Herlock Sholmes
