my aunt whos a die hard san francisco old hippy said this when i asked her why californians are so cocky:
"northern californians look down on southern californians and southern californians look down on everyone else. its because we know we live in the best place on earth." LOL! true story.

if felt like saying best place on earth? your the serial killer, natural disaster and fakeness capital of the world!!! but since shes my aunt on my wifes side i decided not to.

I have a distant cousin who’s a social worker in LA. When we communicate directly, all seems quite normal, but when she is conversing with her LA friends on FB the language gets a bit ‘Californian’. LOL!

Today was a Day of Reflection in the U.K. Charles broadcast an inspiring speech and William and Kate visited a vaccination centre in Westminster Abbey. Haven’t heard a word from Harry. Many of the people who waved and cheered as he and his bride rode through Windsor in their carriage will have lost friends or family members or have died themselves.

Perhaps he and Meghan burnt a joss-stick or two in the privacy of their garden in remembrance. Or perhaps they were too busy.

I can’t believe I’m turning into a Royalist at my age!

But Mr. Barnett, Harry and Meghan are no longer Royals.... I for example, spent the day working and NOT visiting vaccination centres (although I would like to get my shot rather sooner than later).

        P.S.: I'm not a Royal.

Ha! I digress slightly but this reminds me of a favourite saying back in my native Yorkshire (aka God's Own County).

          "There are three types of people in this world;

          Yorkshire folk,
those who aspire to be Yorkshire folk
and those with no ambition at all"

That’s true, but they pointedly told the Queen that anyone can lead a life of service. Perhaps our American colleagues can keep us updated on how many hospitals they open, charity events they attend etc. in the coming years. Before Covid, senior Royals like Charles and Anne were clocking up around 500 such engagements a year.

My wife’s part Yorkshire, her dad was from there and she lived in York for several years. Her stepdad was the RSM of the Prince of Wales Own Yorkshire Regiment. Eh up!

She is, though she lost her accent years ago.

Her dad’s family come from Farndale in the North Yorks Moors and her stepdad was from York itself. Her mum is half Irish, half Geordie. :-)

                        Indeed!

I really miss the Yorkshire Moors.

I usually try and do a Bronte pilgrimage to Haworth every couple of years with a pal.

It usually involves drinking gin in the graveyard outside the parsonage, and a little Kate bush inspired dance routine on the walk to Top Withens.

                        Happy days!!

I love t’moors, but I’m even more of a fan of t’dales. Did you know there’s a contender for the inspiration for Wuthering Heights (the house) in Dentdale? It’s called High Hall.

Charlotte Bronte apparently went to school nearby and it’s suggested that she may have told Emily tales of the area.
