    • By the way people should be forwarned that compared to my table manners, Aaron Kozminsky is Martha Stewart in comparison.

      • The Farthings at A Chapmans feet

        Hi
It´s a very good work but I´m amazed that they support the farthings theory at A Chapmans feet. Why are they not in the reports by the police who attendet the scene? LIke in Inspector Chandlers report page 93 in The Ultimate Jack The Ripper sourcebook. a pice of coarse muslin and a small pocket haircomb ana a portion of an envelope but NO farthings!
        Why?

          • It describes Stephen Wright as "Best-known a an apologist for gay matters". Unless he actually spent his time apologising for the fact that some people are gay then this is a rather odd description and the use of "apologist" could even be regarded as offensive.

              Dear A L Morrison,

At this time of year, it is customary to ask Father Christmas to bring us gifts, and he normally doesn't mind, in my experience, if you write a list of things you're after. Can I suggest that, this year, you ask him for a dictionary and a copy of Plato's Apologia? See for yourself whether you think Socrates is apologising in that.

              Regards,

              Mark

I am quite aware of the meaning of apologist and am aware of the works of Plato. However, I still think the description of Wright could have been written in a better clearer manner. May I suggest that you ask Santa for something to make you less condescending.

                • 'better clearer'? Hmmm...it may help your case in future A. L. if prior to criticising other's wording you put in the effort to ensure that your own posts don't include glaring grammatical atrocities like that.

I don't know you but I am willing to bet that if you DID know the true meaning of the word 'apologist' that you would not have made the statement to which Mark replied, which - with the correct meaning in mind - makes no sense whatsoever.

I do, on the other hand, know Mark, and though he is quite capable of expressing this himself, let me as a 3rd party assure you that he is in no way naturally condescending or hostile. His post (which I found quite funny, I have to admit) was a reaction to a fairly ludicrous (and seemingly somewhat flippant) statement, into which he attempted to inject some festive humour. Hardly a hanging offence. To be frank, he could have put it with a lot less humour and you probably would have come off looking worse.

Maybe we have both got you wrong and you have read some new Political Correctness handbook that makes the word 'apologist' officially offensive. I have no doubt you are a very intelligent person who needs no condescencion and who may well go on to contribute greatly to these forums. But for now, can we all just have a little Christmas cheer and not have ANOTHER feud blow up over nothing? And please, in future, check your facts before posting - it makes things much more pleasant for all concerned.

I'll do better than that I will just not bother posting at all. Please could the administrator please remove all my posts, dissertations and remove my membership from this board. By the way your statement saying if I did know the true meaning, implies that I'm a liar. So much for Chrismas cheer.

                    • I certainly said no such thing, AL, and I am not going to get drawn into another endless 'you implied this, no I didn't' argument. We have seen far too many of those recently and the site admin have specifically asked we refrain from any such silliness while Stephen Ryder is away on a well-earned break. For my part I DO apologise if my own posts have been in any way out of order - although
I have to say I can't see how.

If you choose to leave the site, etc then that is your choice and will be a great shame. However it was never my intention and I shan't feel too responsible. It looks as if you have had a change of heart though, and I think that should be the end to this. If you do wish to continue to try to paint me as the bad guy I suggest we go by site rules and you do so via PMs.

                      • MY FELLOW CASEBOOKERS...

Allow me to apologise for the absolute lack of vowels in the names of the contributing posters to this thread - MWR, AL, and TNB. In keeping with the subject of discussion, I would also like to apologise that some people are gay.

                        Yours truly,

Hmm. Are you suggesting a Welsh or Polish conspiracy? I'll have to think about that one. (heh-heh)

                          Cheers.

Not that there is anything wrong with it.

Lynn, this was precisely my own reaction and idea of a comeback to Tom! Most of the time we seem to think totally alike! (canonical C5 nonwithstanding...)
