    Thanks, Archaic.

We have three reviews on the UK site but as the book has never been published in the US (any copy out there is an import) I guess it's not expected for Amazon.com

Jackie Murphy told me at the WS1888 interim meeting tonight that Basildon Waterstones still has three copies on the shelves.

I'm formulating a letter to the publisher to arrange a termination of contract if they don't reprint as we've had offers from elsewhere and there is a clause in most contracts that you can take the work to another publisher if a reprint is not made - you have to wait a year, though.

I've been in discussion with the MD of Breedon Books today and it looks very probable the book will now be reprinted and available again in June. There's even a murmuring of allowing us to make the corrections we wish to put in.

The reprint does seem to be dependant on a certain condition which will personally do me no favours in the short term but will sort itself out in the long term.

I've yet to hear from Rob as this is hot off the press.

Yes, great news indeed. This is by far my most favourite book on the Ripper and cannot be highly recommended enough.

Amazon.com does have one copy of the book for sale. It's used, in good condition, and they want US$ 140.31, plus US$ 3.99 Shipping.

            A bargain!

The second edition, fully revised and updated is available for pre-order on Amazon. It should be out in about 3 to 4 weeks (Amazon say 1 August 2009 but that's wrong as is the rrp price they mention)

Buy The London of Jack the Ripper: Then and Now by Hutchinson, Philip, Clack, Robert (ISBN: 9781859836002) from Amazon's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders.

Fellas, does the revised edition contain the newly found Dutfields photo?

                    • It doesn't, due to contractual reasons we can't put it in. It will be published by the October Conference. Philip can give more details on the book and what it will cover.

                      • Great book! Unputabledown!!

Page 155 - I think it should be (my relative) Police Constable Thomas Costello (rather than Costella).

                        Best regards,

                        Ash

                        • Hi Ash,

Your quite right it should be spelt 'Costello'. Unfortunately we've had to remove him from the new edition which should be out shortly. Recent research carried out by Debra Arif and myself suggest that it was PC Barrett and not Costello who was patrolling with Sergeant (not Superintendent) Golding that morning. The confusion arose from newspaper reports at the first day of the Inquest.

                          Regards

                          Rob

                          • Many thanks Rob!

Pity no Costello, after all I write the Book, and the Angels, Shipbuilding, etc, and 29 Hanbury Street in 1891!

                            Best regards,

                            Ash

                            • No Sergeant Abbott in this mix?

                              • Once again to Phil and Rob - I thought the book was fantastic. Congratulations.

Not to anticipate too much - what are the changes (generally) that you will make to the new edition. Other than, of course, taking my relative out of it! Boo hoo.

And one last point, if you don't mind, did Mr Wilby take photographs of other historical murder sites?

                                Best regards,

                                Ash
