Dear Lynn
Yup, that would appear to be the man we are after. Fantastic stuff, thanks for posting.
This is very important. We now have McCarthy's wife's maiden name - Stephens, and thus a new line of inquiry - hypothetically speaking, MJK could be a relative of Elizabeth's - the daughter of an older sibling (this doesn't work with John's siblings, as he is the eldest, and MJK, even assuming her youngest given age of, say, 21, would be too old).
So, we now have five possible strands:
1) MJK was a cousin of John's via his father's side
2) MJK was a cousin of John's via his mother's side
3) MJK was a niece of Elizabeth via one of her elder siblings (if she had any)
4) MJK was a cousin of Elizabeth's via her father's side
5) MJK was a cousin of Elizabeth's via her mother's side
This is the first layer, if this comes up blank, then i suppose we move on to the next - grandparents, second cousins and all that... tally-ho chaps (and chapettes)!
