Just a quickie - Stride had no money on her when she was found dead, so she presumably spent her doss money or was robbed.

Hello CD. Kate was on my list a LONG time ago. But no need for Polly and Annie--I KNOW who got them, no mystery.

      Cheers.

        Hello Abby.

". . . BS-man, after spending considerable time (see numerous witness statements of seeing the two) and perhaps money (cachous and flower) and not being able to finagle her into a dark alley had got fed up and left, only to lose his temper and return to Liz and assault her."

And whilst gone, he must have obtained alcohol--if Schwartz is accurate.

        Cheers.

          Hi Lynn,

Are you saying that you don't think Kate was a Ripper victim or are you arguing for some sort of cover up?

            Hello Caz.

Absolutely! But I'm not sure that the 6d should be called doss money, unless she intended to use it as such.

            Cheers.

              • huh?

Hello CD. Hmm, we must talk more often. I don't believe in Jack the Ripper. So, of course, I don't believe that "Jack" killed Kate.

I agree with Baxter's summation about Liz, (paraphrasing) She had none of the skillful mutilations of Chapman nor the unskillful ones of Eddowes.

Besides, Polly and Annie's assailant was sent to a lunatic asylum September 12.

                Cheers.

Hello Abby. So then the drunken condition is what caused Liz to give him a miss?

                    • Hi All,

While I fully concede that Schwartz may not have left us with a completely accurate picture for whatever reason (and any ulterior motive for this would be impossible to guess, never mind establish, so that way madness lies), there are bits of his testimony that don't quite fit with wholesale invention.

If he invented a threatening, bigoted thug in the shape of BS man, for example, shouting "Lipski!" while assaulting Stride, why did he invent Pipe Man, and why did he say he didn't know which man "Lipski" was aimed at? When someone makes up a story involving himself, and no other witness can contradict him, he can generally supply all the answers - precisely because he is making it up. Why pretend not to 'know' a detail like this about an incident he invented in the first place? He could have thoroughly milked it, by saying BS man looked directly at him, a Jew, and spat the word out to scare him off.

You can wish Schwartz's tale out of the picture all you like, but then what? You are left with just another dead unfortunate, and the pony and cart really could have disturbed her killer before he could do more than cut her throat!

                      Love,

                      Caz

Maybe part of it. Her reluctance was probably more to do with:

Not wanting to go right into it (having sex)with a prospective new boyfriend
Not wanting to engage in prostitution activity at the time
Somewhat fearful of going into a dark alley with the ripper scare

Hello Abby. I like your #2. But what Ripper scare? Isn't that just a trifle anachronistic?

Given the clear language barrier could the man have said "Lizzie!" as has been suggested before now.

I doubt that Schwartz would have known who "Lipski" was - though the police may have jumped to that conclusion, as they DID know all about that case.
