    Hello Mike.

"we know that John let Kate pawn his boots Friday night"

    Do we indeed?

    Cheers.

I'm not trying to create a profile of Jack, the police had though.

If Kidney was 6'7" then he surely didn't fit any physical description. As Lynn has pointed out, Kidney was a 'buffoon', surely the police were looking for someone different.

We know that the pawn ticket was dated for Friday Lynn. Of course that contradicts Johns own Saturday morning "boots for breakfast" story ...but when questioned directly about the pawn date, he acknowledged he wasn't sure whether it was Friday or Saturday. He said he was drunk.

        Cheers Lynn

        • Lynn,

I'm not saying Kidney is guilty of killing Stride but he should be a suspect for it. I'm not even committed to saying Stride wasn't a Ripper victim.

I for one don't believe Kidney is the simple minded fool everyone makes him sound like. He obviously had at least once abused Stride to the point she had him charged which is more we can say about anyone else. To matter of factually state this "silly billy" didn't kill anyone (more specifically Liz) I think would be a mistake.

          Cheers

            Hi DRoy,

But that begs the question -- how did the police know that their profile was correct?

They had no idea whether they were right or not but that doesn't mean they didn't have an opinion on the physical description and mental state of Jack. A 6'7" silly billy did not fit the bill.

(Lynn I hope you don't mind me using your silly billy comment, its fun to use!)

                Hi, Lynn,
Actually, from what I understand, the abused not actually sending the abuser to jail is very common, even classic, in domestic cases.

The guy whines and cries and snivels, "you know I didn't mean to hurt you honey, but I was drinking.

You know you couldn't stand to see me in jail, honey. Think what might happen to me in jail.

You know if I go to jail all the bills will mount up and we'll lose everything.

Honey, I love you and I promise I won't ever lay a hand on you again.

From the stories I've heard and read, it is lots more frequently that the abused drop the charges than they press them. THEN, occasionally, the abuse does escalate to murder -- but as someone pointed out on this thread, most often in the home or in the home where the abused has sought refuge.

I suspect Stride got "talked round" instead of getting over her snit.

or even knew he'd kill her if she didn't -- sometimes that threat hangs over a woman's head. "No matter where you go, you send me to jail and I'll hunt you down.

                • Curious,

All speculation of course but I would agree that that's how it most likely went down. He hurt her but for whatever reason she didn't make it to testify against him. That doesn't mean he's a nice innocent guy.

                  • Friday?

                    Hello Mike. Thanks.

Indeed. but if they were pawned Friday night, why did Kate go to Mile End Casual Ward?

Of course, this is not the place to discuss that. Sorry.

                    New thread time?

                    Cheers.

                      Hello Roy. Thanks.

"I'm not saying Kidney is guilty of killing Stride but he should be a suspect for it."

I am not disagreeing. officially, he should be. But don't commit any manpower to that.

"I'm not even committed to saying Stride wasn't a Ripper victim."

                      Well, I am.

"I for one don't believe Kidney is the simple minded fool everyone makes him sound like. He obviously had at least once abused Stride to the point she had him charged which is more we can say about anyone else."

Hang on. she may have been upset and had him charged. When she cooled down and thought it over, she didn't show up.

"To matter of factually state this "silly billy" didn't kill anyone (more specifically Liz) I think would be a mistake."

I appreciate that, but Kidney is rather like the forger Piggott. Both were laughed at in court, and the silly buggers laughed with them. that tells me something.

                      Cheers.

Hello CD, Roy. The Met profile (based on hints dropped passim) included sexual irregularity--masturbation, sodomy, non-standard posture, not thinking about England.

                        Cheers.

Hello Velma. I can't disagree with any of that. We simply don't know which way it happened.

But we can be certain that Liz was not legendary for her veracity.

Well, I certainly wish not to portray him as such. but many "jerks" are not also murderers.

                                Hi Lynn.

Yes, and isn't it just possible that Kidney had stumbled upon her that night, or even followed her accompanied by those men?
Maybe he had seen enough and took her to task over her seemingly carefree ways with other men?

We only have one sketch of Kidney, in profile, don't we? I wouldn't call him "full faced & broad shouldered". The face I see looks like he has a skinny build, but estimates of size at night, and sketches can be misleading.

                                .
                                Regards, Jon S.
