Blind faith? Hardly. I draw my conclusions from the internal evidence of the Diary, which is much more telling than the voodoo opinions of a bunch of 'professionals' who reach wildly different conclusions. Again, a good forger could...and has....fooled scientists. If we want to base our conclusions strictly on professional opinion, then the Hitler diaries are once again real.

I'm sorry, where did I ever state this? I would imagine the earth is billions of years old. But like most people in the western world, I believe in God, and not some ludicrous notion of having evolved from apes. And why are you apologizing to Mike when it's me you insulted?

          Dear Tom,

I think you might mean "most people in the USA".

This is not the place but in the debate between evolution and superstitious belief in imaginary friends, only one side comes across as "ludicrous".

          Best wishes,
          Steve.

Hi Steve, don't be so hard on yourself. God save the Queen! Or is it 'Darwin save the Queen these days'? Doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

            Yours truly,

            Tom Wescott

Just for the record, Steve, I'm currently being called ludicrous on another thread for daring to suggest that the Ripper victims were prostitutes and, in some cases, alcoholics. On yet another thread, I'm being called wrong when I say that the average adult would not identify a 25 or 30 year old man as 'middle aged'. So, it would appear I've been subscribing to contrary opinion all around without realizing it.

              Yours truly,

              Tom Wescott

It has the best ring when The Sex Pistols sing it. :-)

Some weird threads going on right now.
30 was considered "middle aged" in the Victorian era, but I agree with you that a witness in his late 40s would not have called a 30 year old man "middle aged". It's basic psychology. And it's a pertinent observation on your part.
Just FYI, Tom, Steve is statistically correct when he's saying "most people in the USA", cuz most Europeans (apart from the Italians) are indeed agnostic or atheists. As you know, I'm an atheist at 100% myself, but not interested in insulting people who chose to believe in God, for whatever reasons. Honestly, I think it's a crutch, but if someone needs it, why not. And I don't see what "imaginary friends" or "dating capabilities" have to do with the diary debate or even with a debate on religion.
Still, I personally believe you're using your Christianity or whatever you might call it just to be attacked on the boards and have an excuse to become all whiney again. Christian self-crucification? :-p

To be fair to Tom, it wasn't him who raised the subject of his religion on this thread. And no, Tom, I don't agree with those other reasons to call you ludicrous.

Maria: Sex Pistols version is definitely better. God Save The Queen is a rubbish national anthem but then most of them are pretty tedious aren't they?

                    Best wishes,
                    Steve.

                    • Dear Tom

Re: the pile-on against your good (and hot!) self.

Yeah, mate, that's the problem with being outrageously attractive -- we are not well-liked.

Er, no. Professional opinion, based on sound scientific evidence, very quickly condemned the Hitler diaries and put the forger behind bars. I believe they found a too-modern bleaching agent in the paper, among other f... ups.

Sorry Tom, I may have confused you with someone else who thought dinosaur bones were planted by God to test our faith. It's difficult to remember which of God's alleged messages to man you believe in and which you don't.

                        Love,

                          Hi Maria,

Well I'd hate to see the results if you were interested in insulting Tom for his belief in God.

What do you think the diary debate is all about then, if not the ability to date it??

Or did you think I meant Tom's abilities to date the ladies (or the chaps, depending on how the mood takes him, since it's a matter of choice for him)?

                          Love,

Ally - whoops, Caz I meant

I enjoy insulting him, but pertaining to the matter of religion I hold back, cuz he'll get all .

Lol. I agree that the ability to date the diary is directly related to the ability to date. As for dating between chaps, Jonathan H. + Tom W. = Someone should carve this on a tree. With a penknife vs. a bayonette.

                            • Hi Maria, at the risk of coming off as redundant by saying something I know you've heard a million times...you're wrong.

                              Hi Jonathan,

Are you not well-liked? I perceive myself as being very well-liked, except for a handful of peeps who have a big jealous streak (no one on this thread included, of course).

                              Caz,

I know that science eventually proved the Hitler diaries a fraud...that's obvious, since we all know it's a fraud and there's zero debate about them...but PRIOR to that, professionals studied the diaries and pronounced them genuine.

                              Yours truly,

                              Tom Wescott
