Originally posted by CazThe point is, Tom, professional opinion has been divided from day one on when the diary was most likely written. But not one of the numerous forensic examinations has come up with a creation date more recent than 1969. Yet you, with a straight face, take this as evidence to support yet another different opinion - your own blind faith - that it was created in the late 1980s, but carefully enough to fool all the scientists but not you.
Originally posted by CazBut then, don't you also believe the world was created a whole lot more recently than science tells us? How much confidence do you expect anyone to have in your personal dating abilities after that?

I think you might mean "most people in the USA".
This is not the place but in the debate between evolution and superstitious belief in imaginary friends, only one side comes across as "ludicrous".
Best wishes,
Steve.

Just for the record, Steve, I'm currently being called ludicrous on another thread for daring to suggest that the Ripper victims were prostitutes and, in some cases, alcoholics. On yet another thread, I'm being called wrong when I say that the average adult would not identify a 25 or 30 year old man as 'middle aged'. So, it would appear I've been subscribing to contrary opinion all around without realizing it.
Yours truly,
Tom Wescott

I think I turned into Ally for that one. Sorry. I'll try not to let it happen again.
But you must admit, I had a point.

30 was considered "middle aged" in the Victorian era, but I agree with you that a witness in his late 40s would not have called a 30 year old man "middle aged". It's basic psychology. And it's a pertinent observation on your part.
Just FYI, Tom, Steve is statistically correct when he's saying "most people in the USA", cuz most Europeans (apart from the Italians) are indeed agnostic or atheists. As you know, I'm an atheist at 100% myself, but not interested in insulting people who chose to believe in God, for whatever reasons. Honestly, I think it's a crutch, but if someone needs it, why not. And I don't see what "imaginary friends" or "dating capabilities" have to do with the diary debate or even with a debate on religion.
Still, I personally believe you're using your Christianity or whatever you might call it just to be attacked on the boards and have an excuse to become all whiney again. Christian self-crucification? :-pLast edited by mariab; 05-24-2012, 02:37 PM.Best regards,

To be fair to Tom, it wasn't him who raised the subject of his religion on this thread. And no, Tom, I don't agree with those other reasons to call you ludicrous.
Maria: Sex Pistols version is definitely better. God Save The Queen is a rubbish national anthem but then most of them are pretty tedious aren't they?
Best wishes,
Steve.

Sorry Tom, I may have confused you with someone else who thought dinosaur bones were planted by God to test our faith. It's difficult to remember which of God's alleged messages to man you believe in and which you don't.
Love,
Caz

Well I'd hate to see the results if you were interested in insulting Tom for his belief in God.
What do you think the diary debate is all about then, if not the ability to date it??
Or did you think I meant Tom's abilities to date the ladies (or the chaps, depending on how the mood takes him, since it's a matter of choice for him)?
Love,
Ally - whoops, Caz I meant

Hi Maria, at the risk of coming off as redundant by saying something I know you've heard a million times...you're wrong.
Hi Jonathan,
Are you not well-liked? I perceive myself as being very well-liked, except for a handful of peeps who have a big jealous streak (no one on this thread included, of course).
Caz,
I know that science eventually proved the Hitler diaries a fraud...that's obvious, since we all know it's a fraud and there's zero debate about them...but PRIOR to that, professionals studied the diaries and pronounced them genuine.
Yours truly,
Tom Wescott
