If we could narrow down a list of say, the top 50 or so most likely suspects, who would your list consist of?

Who are the mostly likely suspects?

Well I don't think a top 50 would be very narrowed down and would contain a lot of very improbable suspects. My personal list currently consists of a top three-
3. William Bury
2. James Kelly
1. Who I really think it was- the infamous "unknown local who has never been named."

Hi,
A top 50 list would I fear, include such non starters as Lewis Carroll, Queen Victoria, Sir William Gull , William Booth , just to mention a few.
From a personal view, I would suggest three major contenders, the first [ not necessary the main one] being Joseph Fleming, who if proven conclusively was the man confined in an asylum, and was the ex boyfriend of Mary Kelly, would surely be a major contender.
The second is what I would call ''part'' speculation, is a strong feeling I have that McCarthy's[ Kelly's landlord] suspect, was a man that appeared in the court shortly before Mary's death, demanding to see her, because she had something of his... this man was sent packing in ''true McCarthy style[ according to his great grand-daughter Fiona kendall-lane.
A nameless suspect , but very much in line with the Motive, and Kelly being the last of the series.
The other suspect, again nameless, is the market porter wearing a plaid jacket, that was seen [ allegedly] by Caroline Maxwell at 845 outside Ringers.
This would fit in nicely with a morning [ daylight ] murder which I subscribe to, and the police initially also, and in my opinion, as he was the last man seen with the victim Kelly, has to be number one , until eliminated, as in all police enquiries.
The only other one that I hold a candle for is the much discussed Joseph Barnett, Mary's ex, although that theory is shelved at least for now.
Regards Richard,

except that nobody was ever seen above 6ft tall, let alone 6FT 7'' and considering that JTR was seen at least 3 times, this rules out Flemming instantly.
the only chance you have, is if he was only 5ft 10'' or close, but 6ft 7'' is just rediculousLast edited by Malcolm X; 01-21-2012, 03:02 PM.

Tinker Sailor Soldier Spy...
Hi all,
I think Fleming's height is an error also. A 6'7" bean pole would join the carnival...
I like the thinking of richardnunweek except for the daytime massacre of MJK. I struggle with that. It's even more risky, and why burn the clothing and how could no one see anyone coming or going? Seems too much for me but I like the thinking outside the box...
I also like it that no one has mentioned Koz, Druitt, Tumblety, Chapman or the other usual suspects.
I nominate Lawende's sailor, he's our man, he's just not Feigenbaum....

if i was to pick others, rather than my obvious, because picking him is far too easy...
i would go for
1......GH, the real one that we all know, because i'm now quite suspicious of him
2......W. BURY
3......LE GRAND
4......LA DE DA, but tamed down

Deb is not the only one who has suggested an error for Fleming's height. This has been said often in the past. The truth is, there were people 6'7" and taller back then and not just a few. His height only doesn't work if you want him to be a suspect. That's really rubbish, isn't it, to discard something because you don't want it to be so and then making up some BS logic to go along with it?
Sorry. Prove he wasn't 6'7" and maybe you have something.

Well, I don't think Debs' logic was "BS" at all. I felt her suggestion made considerable sense. In addition, I never formed the impression that Debs was intent on promoting Fleming as a suspect. The really really rubbish thing to do would be to accept the entry uncritically, and in spite the absurdity of the idea that a man of such height could also be both 11 stone in weight AND of "good" bodily health.
The entry is probably in error, and Debs' suggested explanation is as good as any.
But let's have a huge great off-topic repetitive debate about Fleming...again.

Hello Ben.
11 Stone 10pounds at one stage , if I recall, which if his height was a misprint ie, 5'7'', would have been a little fat would you not think for 1888?
Still that could work better for Fleming being a suspect, a short stout man would be apt, and that figures throughout this case.
Regards Richard.
