When I was at the Whitechapel Society Meeting yesterday, Stephen Thomas mentioned Little Turner Street to me. I said I never heard of it. Strangely, what I didn't realise until this morning was that I was at Little Turner Street a couple of hours before the meeting. I didn't realise because it's name has been changed to Rampart Street. It runs South off Commercial Road parallel to Cannon Street Road

    • Hi Suzi,

Yeah, got snowed in. It turned pretty cold yesterday, got frost bite in the unmentionables.

I did speak to John a couple of months back about doing a series of photos of the murder sites covered in snow, but all he did was take the pi$$.

Hope you and Dids have got the thermals on

            • Those are wonderful photos Rob. I think these old buildings have a grace and charm all of their own. I love urban back streets with oddly shaped houses and shops and that often-beautiful brickwork. That is one thing I miss about London but we do have some pretty Victorian streets here in Peterborough and I just love strolling through them.

              Great work.

Ooh er, was that me? I can't remember. Then again, if it was at the end of a WS1888 meeting I was probably pi$$ed!

                  Top photographs, by the way.

                    • Hi Rob

Can't compete with your quite lovely wintery photos from last Saturday but FWIW here's one I took just before the WS meeting that day of Aldgate East station at the bottom of Commercial Street where the Ripper Tour customers congregate every night with the Gherkin, next to Mitre Square, glinting in the twilight.

Thanks for all the superb photos everyone. Im new to the site, having had a resurgence of interest 20yrs after reading all the books as a teenager. Do any of you guys meet to walk around the old sites and perhaps have a few beers?
I tried to find Swallow Gardens the last time I visited, or at least the arch, but couldnt even find that. Guess I need some experts to walk around with.
                        Cheers,
                        Pete

                        • Rob,

Are the upper floors of the Ten Bells empty, or in use by the pub owner? Or is there a separate tenant for those upper floors? Just curious.

Gosh, these pictures make me feel so nostalgic, and I've never even been to London!

                          Good job, as usual.

                          Thanks,

                          Celesta

                          Warspite,

                          Welcome to the Casebook, Pete!

I haven't the foggiest I'm afraid. They do look empty from this photo but they could be tenanted by minimalists.
