    Hi Bridewell,

    Who else indeed?

On the day after the resumed Eddowes inquest the Press Association, via the Irish Times, revealed the officer who gave the order to be none other than Warren.

At the inquest DC Halse had been nothing if not circumspect in his evidence.

    Regards,

    Simon

      foreknowledge

Hello Dave. Quite. But if Harvey were out of place, how would Kate's assailant have known?

      Cheers.

Hello Colin. Perhaps the "Moab and Midian" letter?

        Cheers.

Yes, the Moab and Midian it has to be. Incidentally, I think Tom Bulling was behind this letter, and in turn brought suspicion upon himself for the original two missives, which I don't believe he had anything to do with.

          Yours truly,

          Tom Wescott

            Hi Lynn

Does he NEED to have known? Rather than studying the beats, what if he played the whole thing by ear, and simply legged it up the most convenient exit...we could be overcomplicating things here.

            Dave

              Yer Tis!

              Dear Mr Williamson,

At 5 minutes to 9 oclock tonight we received the following letter the envelope of which I enclose by which you will see it is in the same hadwriting as the previous communications.

              "5 Oct 1888
              Dear Friend
In the name of God hear me I swear I did not kill the female whose body was found at Whitehall. If she was an honest woman I will hunt down and destroy her murderer. If she ['was an honest woman' deleted] was a whore God will bless the hand that slew her, for the women of of [sic] Moab and Midian shall die and their blood shall mingle with the dust. I never harm any others or the Divine power that protects and helps me in my grand work would quit for ever. Do as I do and the light of glory shall shine upon you. I must get to work tomorrow treble event this time yes yes three must be ripped. will send you a bit of face by post I promise this dear old Boss. The police now reckon my work a practical joke well well Jacky's a very practical joker ha ha ha Keep this back till three are wiped out and you can show the cold meat
              Yours truly
              Jack the Ripper"

Held back for what reason? Because it predicted 3 murders? Because of the Biblical references perhaps? The Dear Boss & Saucy Jack may have been sent with retrospective knowledge, but this one obviously wasn't.

              Regards, Bridewell

Moab & Midian were traditional enemies of the Israelites, so is this just another clumsy attempt to blame the Jews?

                Regards, Bridewell.

Hello Tom. Quite. He didn't even bother to send the "original"-- if there was one.

                  Cheers.

                    Hi All,

Moab was the land where Ruth lived.

James Monro's wife was named Ruth.

The Ripper game offers endless possibilities.

                    Regards,

                    Simon

                      insider information

Hello Dave. Possibly. But "playing it by ear" could result in "stretching the neck."

What if he had/was an insider with the Mile End Vigilance Committee? They would be privy to the various beats.

                      Cheers.

                        detracting

Hello Colin. Indeed. And not only that, but also, as pointed out in "Letters from Hell" it detracts from the previous two.

                        Cheers.

Hello (again) Colin. Possibly. But more likely a way for the CNA to distance themselves from the unfolding events.

Have you read Andrew Cook's book about "The Star," amongst other things?

                          Cheers.
