I have heard that recently someone found the long missing silent film version of "Sherlock Holmes" that starred Gillette. But I don't know how true this is.

Late to it- but the found Gillette Sherlock Holmes is very real. Getting a blu-ray release on October 20th.

Pity it was only a silent movie. Gillette had a distinguished (if light) voice. It would have been equally interesting if a film of his best known non-Sherlock play, "Dear Brutus" by James Barrie, was found, with the original cast. That play introduced a very young Helen Hayes to the American stage.
