However I admit that if I was still active a Novie would be near the top of my list.
He explained me that he has to travel a lot to find good stallions, blah blah blah, but anyway that's definitely unfair on his behalf.

      But yes, top dog !

Where are your from, Gut ?
I really like the way this dog is said to hunt ducks.
          It's quite unique !
One friend bought a completely useless English bulldog 2200 euros, so...

I have a Jack Russel terrier...they have one hell of a reputation for ratting, and allegedly can be nippy with cats too.

I'm thankful ours is ok with cats (we currently have nine) apart from an unfortunate propensity of trying to screw them all regardless of gender...

However, I'm distinctly puzzled about the ratting reputation...a while ago a rat was displaced from a drain adjacent our local pub and found it's way into our garden. The cats (gormless bloody creatures) virtually ignored it, and when I expectantly released the dog, he simply galloped round and round in circles about the hapless and puzzled rodent...

Eventually I chased said rat out of the garden with a spade (I've been there before and don't believe in taking chances with the blighters)...

            All the best

            Dave

I'm in Australia, the Hunter Valley to be exact which is about 150km from Sydney, the nearest breeder to me with pups currently is in Parth Western Australia about 4,000 kms away. Novies have only been in Australia for about 15 years I guess but in Canada have been used on Ducks for a long time, they do need plenty of exercise but I take it that's not a real problem for you.

If you get a Tollie I want some photos if possible, they are such a great dog. My wife and I have been involved in breeding, showing and occasionally judging dogs for about 30 years.

Are you sure he's a real Jack [only joking] if he won't rat, never heard of such a thing.

                  Hi Dave,

                  Thanks for the warning.
As I have no cats to deflect as his fantasies, I'm not hot at all for a Jack Russell.

                  Hi Gut,

you're a true dog lover and it's nice exchanging with you. If I take another dog, for sure it'll be a Novie or a Chesapeake - that I'm sure of.

I've hunted mainly thrushes with Clara in Provence and Corsica, and now that I'm in Brittany, I'll start the new season with her, and will see. Woodcocks are plenty here.

                  Cheers
