          Hello Lynn,

I suppose I'm quarter Scottish by blood. My Grandma was a Jock and came down to North East England, or dragged down by her Mother, when her Father died at Ypres, WW1. They were squatters at Washington Hall with many others, as in those days there was little social provision and all of the families who had lost the head of the house were housed in these places. My Grandma went to find her Father's grave many years back, but couldn't find it: he remains an Unknown Soldier. Poor woman.

I've tried to trace him since a few times, except we don't know which Ypres battle he died in, and it follows which year although we think 1915, and we don't know to which regiment he belonged (my Mother, Daughter-In-Law, thinks the Black Watch although he could have been Seaforth Highlanders).

Either way, would love to track him down and he was one of those devils in skirts who the Germans feared so much. Although not sure wearing a skirt should be a badge of honour.
