As my old Gran used to say Abby, “they’ll steal the sugar out of your tea!” And it’s got a 100 times worse since then as she’s been dead for 48 years. Petty theft is now almost an accepted ‘profession.’ It’s a wonder that the government don’t provide training courses in Shoplifting or Advanced Scum Behaviour. These people are now almost immune from prosecution. If the police do actually make an attempt to catch them, and by chance they actually do catch them, the ‘sentences’ that get handed out are a joke. It’s usually a fine, with the thief claiming that he has no money so they allow him to pay at some derisory weekly amount. It’s a societal trend these days to see criminals as victims of this ‘terrible’ society. A mugger gets as much sympathy as the person that was mugged. And, sad to say, it will only get worse. In 50 years time this country will be like the movie Escape From New York. Maybe not that long. It’s nothing to do with society. We have social security, free healthcare, decent education and people act as if we live in Whitechapel 1888. Put some police on the streets and start handing out proper sentence. Build a few big prisons, catch someone with a knife…10 years served in full. No excuses. Same for drug dealers. If someone kills someone whilst driving drunk or under the influence of drug…20 years served in full.
Anyway, rant over Abby. I don’t want to stray into politics which is a banned topic.
Regards
Sir Herlock Sholmes.

Hello Herlock and Abby,
D.C. marijuana laws are very vague and no one seems to understand them completely (thank you so much Congress for your interference in D.C. affairs). Recreational marijuana is legal in D.C. and there are stores where you can buy it. However, my understanding is that if you go into the store and ask for a bag of weed you will get a very dirty look (apparently some people have been asked to leave the store) and told that they do not sell marijuana. However, if you would care to buy a little plastic marijuana leaf decal for $150 they will give you a complementary bag of weed as a thank you gift. Very strange and quite frankly ridiculous.
yup. toiletries are the number one shoplifted item in our area cd. alot are now under lock and key.
Some stores have had to close as a result of shoplifting. In some places, gangs of teenagers would enter the store with big plastic bags and just literally sweep everything off the shelves and run out. Can't really blame the stores.
