    G'day Barnaby

A three year old, absolutely the best age in my opinion. Total trust in daddy but can communicate.

Congrats! We had our Son who is now 8 months old and we had a hard time choosing a good boy's name. We finally settled on Connor Elliot.

Congratulations, Esther! That is about the age when they become very fast crawlers. Walking right around the corner! First word yet?

Which raises the interesting pub talk question: The first Ripper-related word is? (Aside from ma-ma, as he clearly had issues!) I'm going with Juwes. As in apple juwes.

Quite right...though mine are presenting me with grandchildren now...which is nice too!

Thanks everyone. Never a dull moment for sure. He's saying Dada and Nana at the moment so I'm hoping Mama will come soon. Just about to crawl (fingers crossed).

Good luck on him saying Mama…it is so adorable, reminds me though of my niece, who is now 6 years old, her first word was Obamama (I’m not making that up either… it was hilarious!!)

As an update, my wife and I cannot agree on any name, Ripper related or not. And so I have abandoned that angle at present (although "Jack" is on my list but only because I like the name). We still have a few months, but I'm getting concerned as we are barely speaking to one another when this topic arises. We recently generated our top 20 names each and had none in common and neither of us want to compromise. I feel I have some leverage, as she picked the first name of our first child and I picked the middle name. I suggested the opposite this time around and was shot down. This is getting dysfunctional rather quickly. Short of flipping a coin (which neither of us want to do, but we also don't want to compromise at this point), I don't know what to do. Has anyone else been in this situation? Sleeping in separate beds because of this!!!

I have only one piece of advice here:

                      "Happy wife happy life"

Separate beds doesn't sound good except no further arguments over baby names.

I did suggest that she could name this one if she would promise we could try for a third which I could name but this was also rejected.

Can somebody please tell me where, in Jack the Ripper lore, Mog Cheeks is mentioned? I've read a lot about the Ripper but I don't remember ever seeing that name.

As for boys' names I have to say that for once I have to agree with Caz about this - I really don't like Case. Casey, maybe, but not just Case.

Is this because the full name will be Case Book?

Incidentally I agree with the person who said that 'Burgho' would be a great name for the baby. Barnaby and Burgho were the two bloodhounds used by the police to track the ripper.

Barnaby, when my sister was born my parents made a nice gesture and asked me what I wanted her to be called. Perhaps you could do the same with your son. One plus is, it gives the first-born a stake in a sibling, and serves to minimise jealousies.

Robert: what name did you choose for your sister?
