This is a trickier one for me because I certainly wouldn’t call myself a film buff. It’s not very often that I watch one but I’ve given it a go.

    Again, in no particular order:

The Private Life Of Sherlock Holmes

    Blade Runner

    Twelve Angry Men

    The Life Of Brian

    Raiders Of The Lost Ark

    True Grit (the original)

    North By Northwest

    A Shot In The Dark

    Rear Window

    Dracula (the original)

    The Silence Of The Lambs

    Citizen Cain

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

    The Thing (the original)

The Lord Of The Rings (I’ll go for The Fellowship Of The Ring)

    2001: A Space Odyssey

    Planes, Trains And Automobiles

    Nosteratu

    Sunset Boulevard

    Jaws
    Regards

Yeah, this is trickier Herlock as it depends on what mood I'm in.

I concur with three of your choices as follows:

    Jaws
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
    The Life of Brian

    and add.....

    Stagecoach
    Christiane F
    Harold and Maude
    Wings of Desire
    Zoolander
    Bowfinger
    Whatever Happened to Baby Jane
The Man Who Fell To Earth
    All About Eve
    Kickass
    Kind Hearts And Coronets
    Sunday In New York
    Alien
    Terminator

I love a good Christmas film too, so I've got to include:

    Muppet's Christmas Carol
    It's a Wonderful Life
    Elf

The lineup would probably look different if I did this again tomorrow though!

I’ve only seen 10 of the 20 but that’s pretty high for me. I’ve heard lots of people mention Zoolander for example but I’ve never seen it. I’m going to have to watch it on the grounds that there must be reasons that so many people like it. I was thinking of watching Wings Of Desire a couple of weeks ago but ended up watching something else. I know what you mean about mood though. It’s strange but I have to be in the mood just to watch a film in the first place.

Yeah, sometimes I just don't have the attention span to sit down and watch a movie.

It's great on a rainy evening with a bottle of wine and some nibbles though!

Zoolander is silly and funny and never fails to make me laugh.

Wings of Desire involves Peter Falk, Nick Cave and Berlin. Three of my favourite things!

I’ve probably missed out on loads of great films just because they don’t sound interesting to me and so I can’t persuade myself to watch them. For years my friend kept telling me to watch Planes, Trains and Automobiles but I held off because I just didn’t think I’d like it and here it is on my top twenty list.

I'd say you owe your friend a pint for introducing you to that classic Herlock!

I am embarrassed to say that one of my favorite movies is Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. It is a silly stoner movie with low brow humor and a sophomoric plot. You won't find it on the list of The American Film Institute's greatest movies of all time. But what the hey. I am a simple man. It makes me laugh.

Funny is funny c.d. I often think that there’s as much snobbery about comedy as there is about art.

                    The Godfather
                    The Professionals (60s western)
The Devil Rides Out (fav Hammer film)
                    The Swimmer
                    The French Connection
                    The Dirty Dozen
HMSS (first Bond at the pictures)
                    For a Few Dollars More
                    Magnum Force
                    Blazing Saddles

Ask tomorrow probably 5/6 changed. Noticed they are all from the 60/70s showing my age.

Some classics there that could easily have made my list George. I remember seeing Blazing Saddles as the support movie when I went to see Monty Python’s Holy Grail. I hadn’t heard of The Professionals or The Swimmer (both Burt Lancaster) They’ll have to go on my ‘to check out’ list. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service gets a bit of stick because some people didn’t like George Lazenby but it stands up well against other Bond films. I think that it might have been more highly rated if Connery had been in it?

The American Film Institute's top 100 movies of all time:

AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies – 10th Anniversary Edition is an updated edition to AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies, a list of the top 100 greatest American films of all time. Honoring the 10th anniversary of this award-winning series, a jury of 1,500 film artists, critics and historians determined that CITIZEN KANE remained the greatest movie of all time. The television special AFI’s 100 Years…100 Movies – 10th Anniversary Edition originally aired June 20, 2007 on CBS.

It says 10th anniversary edition but I am not sure what year this if from.

Only top twenty meant leaving out some favourites, but staying within the rules:
