  • Judge finds Trump guilty of fraud

A New York judge found Donald Trump and his adult sons liable for fraud and canceled the Trump Organization’s business certification, a shocking ruling that poses an existential threat to the former president’s financial empire as he runs for a second term in the White House.

A summary judgment offered by a New York judge days before Trump's business fraud case rejects the Trump side argument that the documents had a "worthless clause" that invalidated fraud charges because it stated the document "wasn't to be relied on."
The judge stated Mr. Trump's "worthless statement" is itself worthless. Trump, three of his adult children, the Trump Organization, and other associates are declared to be guilty of fraud and false tax reporting fot decades.

He was a confirmed fraudster well before this. He settled out of court in 2016 for three lawsuits about his fraudulent Trump University. The Trump Foundation "charity" was dissolved by court order in 2018.

Well, yes, in a preliminary way. The summary judgment is so it will be taken as fact that fraud ocurred, because the Trump side was trying to dispute that, saying it wasn't fraud at all. The trial, at which DJT is supposed to testify, starts soon, and will go through each individual charge of the indictment (there are many, many charges).

The business fraud trial against Donald J Trump began today in New York. It is presided over by a judge only, does not involve a jury. Trump was present, with lawyers and some family members. Trump was said to have listened mostly in silence, looking angry, annoyed, and bored by turns. After leaving with a final glare at the State Attorney General, Ms. James, Trump launched into insults aimed at her and the judge. He insists this is a plan to "get him" and resorted to his favorite phrase "this is a witch hunt!"

You guys may find this article to be amusing.

Someone on Quora asked "Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?" Nate White, an articulate and witty writer from England wrote the following response: A few things spring to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wi...

That sums up the feelings of this particular Brit anyway.

Love the understated "a few things spring to mind" opening too!

Judge has imposed a 'Gag' order on Trump, today he just walked out of the court, and for the first time he had nothing to say.

Got to love his British bluntness about this walking slug of nastiness and stupidity! (I'm an American in the two thirds who want him out of our lives, lol!)

Judge Arthur Engoron rebuked Donald Trump after the former president attacked his clerk in a social media post on Tuesday and forbade the parties from making any future comments about his staff.

More info about the background behind the gag order. Trump apparently found a photo showing the judge's court clerk with Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer, and used this to attack the woman as the senator's "girlfriend" (no proof linkng the two in any way, of course). The judge was infuriated at the attack on his staff member, and advised Trump that any further attacks on anyone connected to his court were forbidden. He also promised stern consequences if this gag order was broken.

I can see Trump thinking this random photo is "proof" of Democratic involvement in this "witch hunt", and would have latched onto any image of anyone connected to his trial with any Demorcatic notable.

In the US, we also traditionally side with David, not Goliath. It's woven into our founding mythology, conveniently forgetting how much of the heavy lifting was done by the French. Which makes it baffling to me that anyone sees Trump as the plucky underdog.

                        But a superb article.
