Jim Swanson’s letter to News of the World, 26th March 1981. ‘The impending trial of the so-called Yorkshire Ripper is bound to stimulate interest in the original Jack the Ripper case, namely the Whitechapel Murders of the late 1880s.’
Charles Sandell’s memo to the News Editor, 15th April 1981 ‘The Yorkshire Ripper trial is bound to stimulate interest in the original Jack the Ripper and it seems an appropriate time to run a story.’
Rob - Kosminsk was known prior to 1987. Whether someone would likely pluck his name out of the air to at least superficially match what Anderson and perhaps Swanson was writing is arguablel.

No.....Receiving info and passing it on,I would say
Thanks Adam. Just my hunch, but I think the "personally" in the heart attack letter suggests that Sandell didn't agree with the decision to reject the story, though he could hardly criticise the higher-ups.
