The U.S. has been defunding education for decades. The national I.Q. is dropping faster than Mayor Giuliani's pants in a motel room. The average world citizen has an I.Q. of 100; the average American is closer to 97. Maybe it's all the chemicals in the food chain, I don't know.
Whatever the reason, the combination of these factors gave us 2016. We elected a grifter to run the nation.
This eventuality was predicted clear back in 1920.

Trump's 'service to the nation' was merely a money making enterprise. Until recently, his campaign coffers had close to a BILLION dollars. No one knows where much of that money went, but, before his mental breakdown, Trump's ex-campaign manager, Brad Parscale, was driving a new Ferrari. Trump's children also had their hands suspiciously close to the cookie jar, so it's really not hard to connect the dots. Although unrelated, Trump's one-time chief strategist, Steven Bannon, faces fraud charges for a bogus "build the wall" foundation.
The Trump campaign was recently so broke that Rudy G. held his last press conference in a rundown parking lot next to a porno shop in an industrial section of Philly.
Now Trump vows to "fight on!" knowing millions will send in more checks.
As P.T. Barnum said, there's one born every minute. This was always about Trump and Trump's personal bank account. Never anything else. I hope Biden does better. I'm not sure how he couldn't do better.

What difference does it make? The Portland situation is a minor and local one that the authorities there seem to have no real grip on but it bears no resemblance to your assertion that "American cities (plural) are burning". Therefore, there is no need for voters to elect a federal government who tear-gas peaceful protesters in other parts of the country for a photo-op while NOT even attempting to address the actual root-cause, which is ongoing and unjustified police brutality. This ongoing brutality was then culminating in cold-blooded murder in broad day-light. THIS is where "law and order" is most needed but here, the federal government continues to fail taking action.Comment

The shooting of Walter Wallace Jr in Philly kind of sums up the police situation, and certainly stands as a good example of how American law enforcement is perceived globally.
No one doubts the guy was a danger, but like his family said, why was lethal force the one and only option available? Do US officers not train for situations that might not require killing someone? But then again, how do you train officers in a country where literally anyone could be carrying a gun? A moment's hesitation, and they're not going home. It's an example of how police in other nations don't have only one course of action. You'll find many clips on YouTube of British Bobbies not instantly resorting to lethal force. Even if they do look less than heroic in the process.
Sorry if I've offended your position, it certainly was never the intention. I was highlighting the fact that US police have such a difficult situation. We can criticise them for being so quick to shoot, for not using other techniques or non lethal options, but the stakes are totally different. That's what the Wallace family themselves were at pains to point out. The system failed the officers because it doesn't do enough to support them in difficult, life threatening situations. It's shoot to kill, nothing else.

Tuesday marked the eighth consecutive day that the US reported more than 100,000 new cases. Also on Tuesday, the country reported a record high number of hospitalized patients nationwide.
And Trump is hiding in his basement, if he's not out playing golf, and VP Pence is going away on holiday.
No-one is at the helm.
