  • Famous last words in movies

I love the movie threads- how about one for noteworthy final words uttered by dying characters, or at least the last coherent thing they say before being offed. Here are some from my personal collection:

Darth Vader, "Return of the Jedi"- "You already have, Luke. You were right about me. Tell your sister... you were right."

V (Hugo Weaving), "V for Vendetta"- "That's the... most beautiful thing... you could have ever given me."

Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin (Danny DeVito), "Batman Returns"- "I'll murder you momentarily. But first... I need a cool drink... of ice water."

Norman Osborne/The Green Goblin (Willam Defoe), "Spiderman"- "Don't tell Harry."

Valeria (Sandahl Bergman), "Conan the Barbarian"- "Hold me... kiss me... let me breathe my last breath into your mouth. I'm so cold. Keep... me... warm. Keep... muh-meeeee...."

Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones), "Conan the Barbarian"- "My child. You have come to me, my son. For who now is your father if it is not me? Who gave you the will to live? I am the wellspring from which you flow. When I am gone, you will have never been. My son. My son."

Quint (Robert Shaw), "Jaws"- "It's giving way!"

Dracula (Gary Oldman), "Bram Stoker's Dracula"- "Give me peace."

Frankenstein Monster (Robert DeNiro), "Mary Shelly's Frankenstein"- "I am done with man!"

Lawrence Talbot (Benicio DelToro), "The Wolfman"- "Thank you."

Jack Dawson (Leonardo Decaprio), "Titanic"- "Promise me, Rose... and never let go of that promise."

Top Dollar (Michael Wincott), "The Crow"- "You got a lot of spirit, son. I am gonna miss you."

Rorschach (Jackie Earl Hayley), "Watchmen"- "Well what are you waiting for? Do it. DO IT!!!"

John Doe (Kevin Spacey), "7"- "Ohh... he didn't know."

O-Ren (Lucy Liu), "Kill Bill"- (In Japanese) "That really was a Hattori Hanzo sword."

Bill (David Carradine), "Kill Bill Vol. 2"- "How do I look?"

    Here's three more:

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness), "Star Wars- A New Hope"- "You can't win, Darth. If you strike me down I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine."

Yoda, "Return of the Jedi"- "Luke... there is another Skywalker."

Jack Napier/The Joker (Jack Nicholson), "Batman"- "Sometimes I just kill myself!"

"I've always loved you..." Nazi brownshirt to head Nazi, in free-falling car!!!
        From "The Blues Brothers" 1980.

        Best wishes,
        Zodiac.

P.S. I love "The Wicker Man" if I ever had to put together a list of my top ten favourite films of all time, it would be right up there.

P.P.S. Perhaps we could celebrate Samhain this year by stuffing all those responsible for the Hollywood remake inside a hugh Wicker Man? "Reverence the Sacrifice!!!"
And thus I clothe my naked villainy

Actual famous last words are my favorite. Especially Gen. John Sedgewick Killed at Spotsylvania during the Civil War. His aides tried to move him further back from the battle, to which he replied -

"They couldn't hit an elephant at this dist..."

          Priceless.
The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

William Wallace (Mel Gibson), "Braveheart"- "FREEDOM!"

"Bride of Frankenstein" - Boris Karloff - "We belong dead."

A couple of Sherlock Holmes ones (from memory) :
"The Professor - it was she!" (impeccable grammar in "The Golden Pince-Nez")
"You've done me." ("Charles Augustus Milverton")

Also several Victorian era real life utterances of "I am murdered" or words to that effect.

Plus "I am exterminated" (various daleks through the years)

That reminds me of poor brave little Master Macduff, in the Scottish Play:

                "He has killed me, Mother..."

Yes, that's a good one. I also like Oscar Wilde's last words in a Paris hotel room.

'Either that wallpaper goes or I do'.

Love that one too, also like this other one attributed to Wilde on his death bed; "Alas, I am dying beyond my means!"

I just remembered one from t.v., on "NYPD Blue." Remember Dennis Franz as Detective Sippowitz? He had such a horrible hard life as an alcoholic, then sobered up and began to improve, found love and got married to an attorney and had a child with her when he was middle-aged and thought he had no hope. And then she was struck by a stray bullet in a courthouse shooting, and just as we the viewers were thinking, "Oh God, you've got to be kidding me, as if Sippowitz needs any more pain in his life!", her last desperate fearful words as she lay dying in his arms were- "Take care of the baby."

                            Hi Stephen and Zodiac,

                            The actual quotes are,

"Well it seems that I will die as I have lived; beyond my means."

"I am involved in a long battle with the wallpaper. Either it or I shall have to go."

                            Best wishes.
