    Hello Stephen,

You are most welcome.. Nice to know my old brain still works sometimes..lol

I admit to having had, many years ago, the same problem for quite a few years with this...

I knew the song, knew the time period but couldn't for the life of me remember who did it. When I found out, I could have kicked myself, as I had seen the record a few times in specialist record shops and totally ignored it. It is one of the relatively few records that I kept when I sold my entire collection. This record helped me understand the evolution of rock 'n' roll from blues.

    best wishes

              • Just classy music as opposed to noise.

As illustrated in Linda Ronstadt's magnificent version of Roy Orbison's timeless classic.

We did, in fact, have a very pleasant evening, Limehouse. Thank you for asking.

I used to agree with Robert that all traditional, sixteen-bar blues sounded pretty much identical. However, CBC Radio One has a blues show on the weekends that I've been listening to recently. I'm beginning to appreciate that the genre is more complicated than I thought, and I'm actually beginning to enjoy it.

But tonight we have to go and hear our middle child perform with his band in a local nightspot. They do a heavy metal, early rock-influenced, rap kind of thing. Ah, the joys of parenthood.

I'm hoping that the venue has a decent ale on tap, but that might be too much to ask.

                  • Home now. I was talking to a blues musician during the sets tonight and learned that basic blues is actually based on twelve bars. The sixteen-bar thing that I have been listening to is, it seems, a variation.

Anyway, my son's band was very good. Having been to these shows before, my wife and I tried to sit well back from the speakers but, even so, when the volume was up, I could feel my heart vibrating and our table was shaking. I'm not sure why most young people aren't deaf if they go to these performances frequently.

It cost us $8 for each for admission. After the show, I told my son and his colleagues that it had cost me only $5.50 to see The Beatles so, obviously, theirs was a better group. I think that the concept of monetary inflation escaped them, but they seemed pleased with the idea that their show cost more than Sir Paul's, et al.

Yes, GM, the classic format for blues is indeed 12 bar but the 16 bar variation can sound really nice. This guy is playing superb blues guitar over Ray Charles' tune Sweet 16 Bars though I suspect he's actually playing Need Your Love So Bad by Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac.

Don't watch this, Robert, you might start liking Blues.

Guitar Jam/Accompaniment played along with Ray Charles' Blues Song, "Sweet Sixteen Bars"This is just me jammin with Ray Charles, one of my major influences.

                        • Hi Stephen

I do like the solos that you get in blues, I can't deny that. I like it when the guitar is at the fore and leaves the plodding blues background far behind...as far behind as possible...

                          • This group came from my birthplace (Walthamstow - east London) and were a hugely talented but under-rated blues band. Some of them also played with Atomic Rooster. They have a bit of a cult following now.

A real rarity this one, a track from their 1969 decca lp, Sam Apple Pie came from Walthamstow in London and i was lucky enough to see them live, But unfortun...
