    • Hello Gut.

I didnt get to see it ( was not shown here in the States) but did get to read about it.. Clotty looked amazing I hear.. wild since he has only faught 2 times in the last 3 years... always thought he was a good fight who just happened to lose big fights.. no shame in that, and nice to see he gets his Title... as for "The Mouth" i think he should consider hanging up the gloves...been a nice career.. but time to go!!

As for Aussie rules, I was introduced to it probably 20 years ago on ESPN over night.. and I was hooked, long before I understood the rules (Pinkmoon.. see it did take me a while.. think it was the octopus thing!! ) then it was gone for many years on U.S TV.. it's back on now, but I have to pay $20 a month for the channel that shows it, 3 games a week plus highlights, and all finals...then the channel shows all kinds of soccer (sorry.. football) that I do not watch haha...

what other sports are you interested in?

"The Man's" mouth is his biggest problem, when he was playing league he was exactly the same. He played next to no rep but mouthed off all trhe time that he was the greatest in the game.

His old man on the other hand could fight.

Mundine and Danny Green are in talk about a re-match.

Aussie Rules is actually a pretty simple game to follow, as I posted earlier invented to keep cricket players fit in the off season and as a non-contact sport. The hardest thing about the rules is 6 for a goal, 1 for a behind.

My main sport is Rugby League, played right through school and University and a bit of Grade, you would probably know nothing of it and in all honesty what I played barely resembles what is played now, in my days [I sound old] there was a fight every game and a scrum without punches thrown was a rarity.

I have played a lot of sports:

        Aussie Rules
        Sailing
Soccer [played with and against maybe the greatest Aussie player of my Generation and I think the first Aussie to play in England Comp]
        Volleyball
        Basketball
Baseball [not real big hear in my youth]
Gridiron [interesting, but all the protective gear takes the fun out]
        Tennis
Boxing [Too many rules for my tastes]
        Golf
Rugby Union [Different game to Rugby League by the way]
Cricket [not enough action for my tastes]

Being the ones I tried at club level.

And most of the childhood muck abouts.

        • Wow... I really do not want to talk about that game this weekend-----Come on Brisbane.. not that I expect you to win.. but to lose by 113!!!!

And Gut.. Rugby union I do know, that channel I pay extra for to watch Footy shows quite a bit of Rugby as well....and they do play it here in the states.. it's not big at all, but it is played, actually that reminds me of a funny story, in 2009 I was in London (England) and was walking the Hyde park and saw a group of (what I am guessing) were university students trying to play "American Football" with a rugby ball.... was quite amusing.. they didn't know what they were doing but were having such fun, My brother and I stopped and were watching and they must have heard us talk and realized we were Americans, and asked us to teach them a bit, so we did, was a nice fun afternoon (they didnt want us to play though as both my brother and myself are giants hahaha he is the little one at 6 feet 3 inches tall weighing around 300 pounds... I am 6 feet 5 inches and around 330 pounds).

now Cricket is a game I will never understand.. I come from a baseball backround, I see the size of that bat and all I can think of is swinging for the fence every time...seems like a no brainer to me but alas not.

that’s a nice list of sports you have played... As I said, I was a boxer, and played Baseball and Ice Hockey, but neither on any serious level, and tennis for fun..

I am curious, how closely is Boxing followed there.. believe it or not it gets almost no media attention in the States, except for really big fights, sad really, but most people in this country know nothing of the sport.

The Rugby you watch is a lot different to Rugby League, in league there is a lot less kicking and a lot more running with the ball. I've played both but for me it was League all the way. I was no great sportsman but would turn my hand to anything, unfortunately I am almost blind in one eye so never had great hand eye coordnation [depth perception shot], I played a bit of Grade League and even turned out for the local Gridiron [American Football] team in the State competition, I didn't like allo the stop start and protective gear.

Now Ice Hockey could be good without all the protective gear, those guys get physical.

Cricket was never my cup of tea, played a little but far to slow for me. 4 or 5 days and you spend half sitting waiting for your turn to bat and half standing around hoping they hit the ball your direction.

They just had a big baseball game in Sydney, I think the season opener, I know the Rowland-Smiths whose son pitches for I think from memory Arizona?

I did some boxing, but the eye was an even bigger problem and as I was a brawler not a boxer didn't do too good.

Boxing has a moderate following here in particular when an Aussie or Kiwi is fighting or one of the big big names. It was huge n the 70's and even 80's but now never on free to air Tv and only on Pay TV via pay per view. Most people who want to watch go to a pub, mostly they [pubs] show the big fights.

            • Same here with boxing.. sad really, great sport that I think so many people would enjoy if they were actually exposed to a bit more of it... now MMA and the like are really big here in the states, but personally, I cannot stand it... there is no sportsmanship, in boxing there are rules, and gamesmanship, but to me, getting someone on the ground and choking them, or elbowing them in the head till they are un responsive... that’s not sport .. in boxing the fans want to see a knockout sure, but they do not want to see someone hurt, you can almost hear the fans gasp until the fallen man gets up and is ok.. where as in MMA they want people messed up and to be carried out….Rollerball has come to life hahaha ..

Ok, off my soapbox now and time to try and cheer for Brisbane… got to play Richmond… not looking forward to that haha (glad I didn’t order that new gurnsey… besides shipping is way too expensive!!!! It was like $50 to ship to the states from their online store… no thank you, not for a team that terrible!!!)

Hmm you are right Gut, league rugby sounds like a much more fun game to watch…too bad they don’t show that here… I would gladly give up 3 or 4 of the soccer leagues they show for that 

The Rugby League World cup was on late last year and the USA ended up ijn the semi-finals, believe it or not, bet you didn't even know you had a national team.

In my opinion not as good a game as it was in the 70's and 80's they've tried to hard to speed the game up and taken a lot of the muscle out.

                • Wow.. no I didn't know we had a team.... and a pretty good one eh? strange, usually if we are any good at anything it gets a crazy amount of coverage (we are a nation of braggarts and always need a good pat on the back)

What the U.S.A really needs is that Black Jelly Bean eating team.. I know a great choice for captain!!

I do know that for years we did not have an international Cricket team.. I was trying to convince some Indian medical students who lived in my building to teach me and some of my baseball playing friends..(they were all Cricket players.. I was not stereotyping.. just to be clear ) so that we could try and start the team.. but we could never understand it.. and could not find any sponsors.. I think the U.S may have one now…. This was close to 20 years ago we had this idea

                  • Yep you have a national Cricket team.

BTW the League team is the Tomahawks.

I had a look at Lions jumpers but by the time I get it delivered to me and then post to you still almost $50 postage next time I'm near sports store I'll see if I can get one local may work out cheaper.

                    • Oh wow.. that would be amazing (on the jumper) only problem is being a giant hard to find one that fits but if you do see any let me know prices, and maybe we can work something out.... speaking of which, if there are any American team jerseys you may want, what ever sport, please let me know, I can get just about anything here (well.. .American or Canadian wise anyway).

The Tomahawks eh... well that was the name of my High School Jr's team... Warriors was the Sr teams (I come from an area that was largley Native American before the settlers... ya know like most of the United States hahah.. but we kept all the Native names and such)

why is Postage so much between our nations... oh well... I know I sent a New York Yankees jersey there a few years ago for a friend and the postage cost almost as much as the jersey... was worth it though, he wanted a real Yankees jersey so bad ( Had it made with a number 3 on it, so it was a Babe Ruth jersey )

but anyway, if there is anything you are looking for here leet me know.
