An Idaho couple, living near the location of the college student slaughter, claims their dog was skinned and filleted just weeks before the brutal killings took place.

Police say this is unrelated, though it's not clear how they could know that if they have no suspect in either the murders or the killing of this dog

The investigation into the killings of four University of Idaho students has received an overwhelming amount of tips related to their search for a white sedan seen near the crime scene around the time of the deaths last month, police said Friday.

Latest news is they are overwhelmed with phone tips, primarily about a white sedan automobile seen near the house.

Police believe the occupants of the car may have seen something or know something about the murders.

The Balloch thing was marginally less threatening, but equally surreal.

I recall men dressed only in y-fronts running around a park breaking branches off trees, a bearded lady shouting "WTF do you think you're looking at?" as we were watching the river with our backs to her, completely oblivious to her approach and a bar manager who seemed to take mortal offence when we asked to see a cocktail menu shouting at us "We don't do cocktails!!!" despite a ten foot neon palm tree "cocktails" sign standing in the garden outside.

I swore I'd never go back but foolishly capitulated twenty years later.

Within seconds of disembarking from the train, I spotted a dead crab tied with string to the branches of a fir tree.

        Never again!!!
A few years ago. we had a young couple we were friends with who were very pleasant, and we were sorry when they moved to the Pacific Northwest.

We thought they were going to Washington state, but a bit taken aback when they settled in western Idaho, because the cost of living was so much more manageable than in Washington or Oregon.

Idaho is quite conservative, although it has its more liberal areas around universities. Several years ago, a gay college student from Colorado was murdered by two men who had talked to him in a bar, and offered him a lift. They had stopped in a rural spot, beat the gay man, stripped him and tied him to a fence in cold weather. Nice idea of entertainment, huh?

Yeah, don't go up there if you can avoid it.

I’m sure it’s been realized by now, but the house is split level. If you enter the back door, you’re actually on the second floor. The people on the second floor were killed, then the killer went upstairs and killed the people on the third floor. He then presumably went down to the first floor and out the front door (the front door was left wide open) while not bothering the 2 girls asleep on the first floor. In other words, one or both of the victims on the third floor were the killer’s target. The victims on the second floor unfortunately died for being at the wrong place at the wrong time, and likely because one of them was a larger than average sized male. By the time the killer got to the first floor, he’d already killed his target(s) so IF he even noticed the 2 girls on the first floor, he simply passed them by.

interesting analysis and you could well be right that he was targeting the girls on the third floor. but im not so sure. this reminds my alot of the gainsville ripper case and or like bundys assault in sorority house. both not targeting specific individuals, just want to inflict murder and mayhem. although the killer may have known the people there or followed them home, I think saying he was targeting specific individuals may be a stretch at this point. Targeting also implies a specific reason why they were targeted-revenge, sexual assault, robbery etc,, and i dont think there is any evidence of any of this is there?

IMHO this looks like a serial killer, or budding serial killer, who is just living out there sick fantasy-and that unfortunate house/people was what he picked, perhaps even somewhat randomly. However, you could very well be right, and I wouldnt be surprised if they ever catch him it turns out he was casing out and targeted those two girls.

The serial killer aspect frightened many students and parents. Lots of students left early on holiday break to go home, often at their parents' insistence. The scary part is this was off-campus housing, so I suppose no protection from campus securiry.

they should have police swarming all off campus housing.

I don’t know about the Gainesville Ripper case, but no this is definitely not like the Bundy case. The police have said from the beginning that this was a targeted attack and on that point, I totally agree. They made a lot of “half statements” of evidence. One of those half-statements is that the killer went in the backdoor (2nd floor) and out the front door (first floor). If that is true, then what I posted is undoubtedly true…he started on the 2nd floor and didn’t find his target, but DID find a threat -a relatively large male- who had to be eliminated. He then went upstairs and found and killed his target(s) and therefore left the two defenseless girls on the first floor alone, if he even knew they were there at all.

another “half statement” is the implication- which has pretty much been verified by one of the parents- that one of the victims sustained more severe injuries than any of the others. If this is true, it would further point to this being a targeted attack.

in being a targeted attack, I’ve seen many speculate it was an ex-boyfriend, or someone who had been slighted or insulted, or maybe even a road rage incident or drunken rage. Any of that is possible. But in my “amateur profiling”, I’ve also come to believe it’s a local nut who is obsessed with slasher movies and has targeted “college girls” like the slasher villains in the movies. In this case, he would likely be a survivalist/hunter and probably suffer from some sort of religious mania. I’ve also noted that a new Halloween movie premiered in theatres only about a week before the murders and that police should check the local theatres to see if anyone watched that movie an unusually high number of times.

I agree this could very well be a “first crime” of a serial killer type. It seems to be “targeted”, but not necessarily in the way they are suggesting. I think it could be he “targeted” a blonde college girl living in a party house because he believes he’s doing God’s work like Michael Myers and NOT “targeted” her because he actually knew her.

A 25-year old man has been arrested in Scranton, Pennsylvania (the home town of Joe Biden, some 2,500 miles away from Idaho) for the killing. The police will announce his name and other information at a press conference about 4 hours from now

Bryan Christopher Kohberger was taken into custody by police and the FBI around 3 a.m. Friday in Pennsylvania, according to reports.

According to court paperwork (required to take the suspect from one state to another) the suspect is a 28 year old graduate student in...wait for it...criminology.

this attack was totally like the bundy sorority attack. bundy entered a sorority house in the middle of the night attacking four girls while they slept killing one. and based on what we know about the suspect, hes a highly educated PHD student in criminology at nearby washington state...very similar to bundy. he even looks like him.

itll be interesting to see what else we learn about this suspect. but it appears, he dosnt have a criminal record either. Also, will be
interesting to see if he has any connection to the victims.

We’ll agree to disagree on this. If you mean there are superficial similarities in the crimes, yes. As far as the motives and signatures, not at all. Bundy was very much a sex murderer and necrophiliac who, by the time of his final crimes, had an uncontrollable urge to kill. These current crimes were targeted crimes with no indication to this point that he was a sex murderer who couldn’t control himself. I think you could say Bundy was relatively intelligent, but more manipulative than intelligent. Some psychiatrists and investigators who actually knew Bundy have said that the idea that he was extremely intelligent is a total myth.

as far as my amateur profiling, guess I’m gonna have to stick to my day job, though the details about this suspect haven’t been released yet.
