Who Was The Police Suspect
Originally posted by Stan Reid View PostThanks Jeff. How many cop suspects are we talking about, if you don't mind?
In his book on the case, 'Jack of Jumps', David Seabrook said a former Metropolitan Police DC was the favourite suspect of several senior detectives investigating the case. This suspect was recently identified as DC Brian Cushway by the writer Stewart Home in a review of Seabrook's book (www.stewarthomesociety.org/seabrook.htm) but there is no evidence supporting the allegation, which is merely speculative.
Jimmy Evans and Martin Short in their book 'The Survivor' allege the culprit was Superintendent Tommy Butler of the Metropolitan Police's Flying Squad.
Actually I think there was only ever one police suspect and Own Summer new exactly who that was. He was simply prevented from giving the name because people at the top, Denning, MI5 MI6 special branch, didnt want it to be known.
The ripperologist 'X', who mentioned the Australian suspect was quite clear that it had been a open secret at Hendon for years that the killer was *** ***
So why were seniour police officers at Hendon so sure they could protect an ex-police officer if there wasnt very seniour Police and Government connections wanting the identity protected?
Also why was Seabrook given access in the first place? He was refused access by Capon after all?
Did someone want Seabrook sold a pup? Did they know Cushway was a non starter and offer Seabrook access if he told a truth they wanted the public to hear? Hence Cushway
And then Seabrook dies in mysterious circumstances. Not the first author to die in mysterious circumstance, Marelia Novotney also died in mysterious circumstance trying to publish a book on this subject.
So I think there is only one real police suspect. And Owen Summer knew who that was.

Stripperology 2014
Was Jack the Stripper a Copper?
Certainly Own Summers believed this to be the case in 1972
But which Copper?
Information within the force and more specifically at Hendon College where the recruits were train was divided.
And might someone have a reason for selling David Seabrook a pup?

Did John De Rose Know the identity of the Killer?
P.S.
Just an extra thought for everyone.
If Mungo Ireland wasnt Jack the Stripper. Why would John De Rose (Five day Johnny) go on national TV certain in the fact that he had gotten his man and that he would not strike again?
Further to that he was also proved correct as no more bodies were discovered after Mungo Irelands Suicide.
And how come De Rose had no worries about Mrs Ireland either talking to the press? (She was at the same address even Own Summers could have figured that one out) So how did he also know Elizabeth Ireland wouldnt challenge his claims if he was indeed fingering an innocent man?
Would he risk his considerable reputation if he wasnt fairly certain the crimes would stop?
One to get you all thinking
Yours Jeff

State Of Stripperolgy 2014
State of Stripperology 50th Anniversary 2014
Hi Everyone
As we are now in the 50th anniversary of the Stripper or Hammersmith Nude Murders I wanted to open up some of the suspects who have been put forward and ask the question have the leading contenders changed in the past 50 years or so?
Ask the question why are the files still closed and likely to remain so, if David Seabrooke is correct, for the next 100 years.
The Prime suspect was John De Rose ‘Security Guard’ who worked at the Heron industrial Estate, named in 1974 in Brian McConnells book ‘Found Dead and Naked‘ as ‘Big John’, and later revealed in David Seabrook’s book ‘Jack of Jumps‘ as Mungo Ireland.
Incidentally Mungo for the last ten years was always my preferred suspect as he was the only suspect definitely connected to the Heron Industrial Estate where we know four of the bodies were stored in an Electric Substation.
Other names have been connected including Boxer Freddie Mills and of course the Kray Twins who were interviewed at their solicitors office in connection to the crimes.
But owing largely to Owen Summers news paper feature in 1972, who refuted John De Rose suspect, several police officers names have been put forward. The last suggested by David Seabrook was a low ranking CID officer called Cushway.
More recently Neil Milkin raised a number off circumstances connecting known serial killer Harold Jones to the Stripper murders. A case he makes with some intriguing circumstantial evidence, that surely make him one of the leading suspects in 2014.
But Neil Milkin’s book also raises some serious questions about Mungo Ireland being Jack the Stripper. Indeed Milkins publishes several emails from Mungo’s grandson that paints Mungo in a very different light to that painted by Brian McConnell.
Ireland had served during the War on HMS Penelop. A boat famous for action and eventually being torpedo’d. He also points out that Mungo didn't start working at the Heron Industrial Estate until after the discovery of Helen Barthelemy and Mary Flemming. Indeed he only worked there for a few weeks.
It leaves the question therefore: ‘How the hell did John De Rose get away with accusing Mungo Ireland of being Jack the Stripper without his wife speaking up and denying the allogations?
And its that question that I think I have found an answer to at long last.
Fact: Ireland was in Scotland the night Bridget O’Hara disappeared. He never showed up on any of the police number plate searches. He only worked at the Heron Industrial estate for a few weeks. Serial killers don’t tend to commit suicide.
Indeed why haven’t Irelands family insisted the Police supply evidence that Ireland was Jack the Stripper or issue a statement exonerating him? After all it would appear that it was an error by police that allowed David Seabrook to publish Mungo Irelands name.
My understanding is that Mungo’s wife Elizabeth was forced to move from their address following the publication of Seabrook’s book. Yet still she kept quiet. Why?
I think the answer lies with the Metropolitan Police force and corruption in the 1960-70’s

I've just gotten back from London Archives. Jokingly I said to my partner who had never been there... "it will be full of ripperologists research MPO files.
To my amazement I walk into the libary and I knew half the people there..yes ripperologists with sophisticated camera's snapping away at 1888 files..
So lots of new jtr books on the way!!
But I did get to look at the newly released file..bit of a disappointment, however it was largely the news paper reports of OWEN SUMMERS
And he clearly claims that Mungo Irleand was framed by the police force. And a Policeman did it!
BUT WHY?
I think I have an answer to that.... A new place for Stripperology suspects 2014
Post 'Ireland' and 'Cushway'.I think they can be written off..and with two brand new suspects to take the case forward..

Something that interested me, given the profession of the victims and some suggestion of links between various victims and 8mm porn films and various parties.
However I'm now of the opinion that this is a red herring.
Mungo was a war hero who fought on HMS Penelop. A ship sunk with 610 lives lost. He probably met his wife in Malta under stressfull circumstance.
I see no evidence that serial killers take there own lives and while its possible Mungo killed O'hara, the disputed victim, he didnt start working at heron Industrial estate until Helen Barolomy and Mary flemming's bodies had already been dumped covered in Paint spec's. This can not be explained?
I presume that Neil Milkin published hoping new news on Harold Jones where about's might surface during 1964.
To my knowledge, at present, none has done so.
But my guess is that the police have a serious consideration. What if John De Rose alligations against Mungo and his widow are after all... incorrect?
That might be one hell of a court case
Thank you for your post
Yours Jeff

Hi Chris
Your supplied information is most useful and I will make enquiries first thing monday morning.
I guess the problem relates to Mungo's widow, who I gather had to move house following Seabrook's book release and also Seabrookes accusations against Cushway, who was still alive and living in Chingford four years ago.
Bizarrely all the information has cast further doubt on either suspect being the killer.
I gather that many family members (Both victim and suspect) read these boards which is why I'm happy to post and discuss if anyone wishes to PM me directly.
I certainly have information on the Tailford family I'm happy to pass on to relatives.
As this year is the anniversary its interesting to note more information has been released and I hope it helps various relatives, given that all the victims left large families
Many thanks
Yours Jeff

That's interesting. I always thought it was surprising that Seabrook was able to publish so much material from the police files, given the nature of the material.
I'd be surprised if the original files were at Hendon, and copies at the National Archives. I wonder whether it's possible that the files were temporarily transferred from the National Archives to Hendon for him to look at them there. It all sounds pretty irregular.
Regarding the other files that remain closed, there would be nothing to prevent anyone making a Freedom of Information request for access to them. The problem is that the FOI Act would allow them to withhold sensitive personal information about anyone who might still be living. That would include information about people's sexual lives (for examples statements by or about prostitutes or their clients) or allegations that people had committed crimes (for example identification of anyone as a suspect for the murders). On the other hand, that would probably still leave quite a lot of information which they would have to release, unless they could think of another exemption that would cover it.

Originally posted by Chris View PostThat's certainly not what Seabrook said, which was that David Capus of Metropolitan Police Records Management and his colleagues had made a number of closed files in MEPO 2 and one in CR 201 available to him. He also referred to three open files on other cases at the National Archives, including the MEPO 2 file on Freddie Mills.
Incidentally, although Seabrook said he was told that all the files on the nude murders would remain closed for 100 years, one of them - CR 201/72/60 - was opened last year.
You are correct that Seabrook claimed to have the full support of the MET I quote: "I have benefited enormously from the kindness of the Metropolitan Police.. These files are closed to public inspection: David capus of MET Recordsmanagement informs me that they will remain closed for 100 years from the date of the last active minute' He thanks David Capus and Andrew Brown and Alan Oakley.
On Page 100 of his recent book Neil Milkin rights "Concerning the book 'Jack of Jumps" by Mr David Seabrook. In the introduction he gives the impression to the reader that I permitted him access to the Metropolitan Police case files: this is not true. The fact is that during the course of my correspondence with Mr Sreabrook I consistently refused him access to the files. Subsequently I understand that he approachedanother unit within the service and was granted access to the files by them. I am not able to say why or under what terms he was granted this access, but it was done without the consent of either myself or any of my colleagues within MET police records branch, where responcibility for authorizing the release of the information from records in the custardy of the National Archives ultimately rest. Why Mr Seabrooke should attribute this disclosure to me I can only speculate" David Capus.
According to Frank Quin "Seabrooke had told him his original research had been into the death of boxer Freddie Millls, Frank said that Seabrooke had told him that he had viewed all the original information relating to Mills death, which was stored at Hendon Police College at Aerodrome road, Colindale, London. While at Hendon, Seabrooke became aware that all the original files relating to the Hammersmith nudes murders were also stored there. Apparently he spent four months at Hendon studying them, which resulted in him publishing his controvercial book 'Jack of Jumps"
Finish Page 101
So it appears the original files are at Hendon. and Copies at the National Archive. I believe there is also archive facility at Peterborough.
But it does raise the question are all teh file identical and what information is stored and how much?
Personally I'd be most interested to know if the interviews of staff members at Heron Industrial Estate and the supposed vehicle regestration collection of vehicles in and out of the zone remain?
To my knowledge Hannah Tailfords Coroners report at City Arive is the only remaining one.
But any further light you might shed would be much appreciated
Many thanks

I'm not certain if the files at Hendon are identical to the National files ie Copies and whether they contain the same information
Perhaps someone would like to comment?
