  • I'm not sure I'd like to live in a house where a brutal murder took place.....however it could be a nice little earner. The owner could give guided tours!

(Referring to another case - I think that the new owners of Rhyl guest house - where Hanratty stayed - still give guided tours of their home and the green bath is still in the attic! I don't know if they charge money for the guided tours though)
    This is simply my opinion

    • I would have no problem living in 29 Wolverton Street. It is the living I fear, not the dead.

I would assume any money made on a property would have to be 'declared'?? I remember neighbours that overlooked onto 25 Cromwell Street were charging the public to view the residence. I think that is tasteless though...

      • That is strue about the Hanratty house, live about 8 miles from Rhyl. The guy who owned the house and gave evidence is dead i believe, though i cannot be certain as to when he died.

        • Mark - Yes I agree, we have more to fear from the living.

If I lived near Rhyl I would probably go on the guided tour (if there was one) of 'Ingledene' - the guest house where Hanratty stayed on the night of the murder.

At the time of the murder it was owned by a lady called Grace Jones and then her daughter Barbara Harris (who are now both dead). It has had a few owners since then.

Sorry to digress from the Wallace case.

            • Yes, I think the owner could make some proper cash from tours. The passage of time makes a difference I think. Maybe you should wait 40-50 years or even more if some who were directly connected are still living and don't approve.

Here in America, the Lizzie Borden murder house is a huge tourist attraction and, I believe, for pay.
This my opinion and to the best of my knowledge, that is, if I'm not joking.

              • Stan I think I remember reading that the Gein farm in Plainfield WI was burned down (much to the relief of the locals who didn't want it to become a haven for curiosity seekers). I'm sure I saw a photo of a carny that included the car that Gein supposedly owned being paraded for publicity as well...
There will always be the morbid curiosity regarding crime and criminals (I myself am guilty of this, having been on several Ripper tours in the East End of London...)

                • I've always quite fancied doing the Ripper tour but I've heard that it's just a glorified pub crawl.

The ones I have been on weren't Louisa. Yes, they usually ended up at the 'Ten Bells' pub but that was the only pub to round the evening off so to speak. I was more bothered about some of the inconsistencies on the tours though - some of the locations were contradicted in some places - where the exact location of the actual murder of Mary Kelly was committed (Miller's Court) was contradicted by two different guided tours (yet the same company) and also the exact Goulston Street grafitti location was given in two different parts of the street. I'm a stickler for actuality!!

                    • Well it it isn't accurate then there doesn't seem much point in it.

                        • Yes Stan. Susannah York and Pete Postlethwaite both died back in January. As you know Susannah York played Amy Wallace in The Man from the Pru and Pete Postlethwaite played the part of WHW in the 1981 radio programme Who Killed Julia?

                          • Hi Penny,

I think the thing about Wallace was that he considered himself a free thinker. He was a very dedicated stoic. I don't thing what the convectional thinking at the time concerning the difference in Julia and his ages would have mattered to him.

I think the stoicism explains his actions whilst within prison.

It is clear that when he was being interviewed by the Police that he did try and implicate Parry as a possible suspect, along with others.

On the issue of Wallace and his sister in law, it has always been known that they were very close friends.

                            Best wishes.

                            David.

                            • When they made "man from the pru", they used Wolverton Street for filming. My uncle and all the neighbours were paid a bit of money for the inconvenience of the filming on their lives. Many props were brought in for the filming and i think they had make themselves scarce for the filming itself.
