Why are you assuming Brennan's 1987 account is more accurate than his 1963 account?
Secondly, J. Edgar Hoover did not believe that Brennan was the source of Sawyer's 12.45 bulletin. If this is the case then someone other than Brennan was offering descriptions, a person who was never later identified.
I think you questioned earlier Hoover's knowledge of what happened. Fair enough, he wasn't there at the time. But he knew a damn sight more than either of us or indeed anybody on this blog about what happened on November 22nd, 1963. If you question Hoover's knowledge of the case then it follows logically that you have to question all of the information that was laid before the WC by his organisation, the FBI.

There’s a lot of hard work being done to try and discredit Brennan. He immediately went to a police officer saying that he’d seen a man with a rifle on that floor. But hey…lucky guess I suppose.Regards

I've never said anything different. What we don't know for sure is what Brennan said at that time, specifically before 12.45.
Brennan's responses at the WC- not remembering how many were in the line up and if any were coloured men- undermined his own testimony. As did his reluctance to commit himself initially to identifying Oswald. He didn't need any assistance in discrediting his testimony.

The Winchester 30-30 was a lever action rifle.

Here is the link to that radio log:
There's some very interesting information. Is the ricochet that is reported at 12:37 as having hit someone the one that hit Tague? There is a lot of talk about the shots coming from the third or fourth floors.

I am following up a prior conversation abut the Mexico City Mystery Man.
Alan Belmont of FBI had instructed Dallas FBI to show photo of the Mystery Man to Marina Oswald. The image was shown to Marguerite Oswald. After Jack Ruby murdered her son, Marguerite Oswald remembered the FBI photo and insisted the Mystery Man was Jack Ruby. The search for the mystery man is a fascinating excursion into counter-intelligence. It is a Mexico City story. Not a Dallas story. When I introduced the concept of the Mystery Man, FIVER commented that it is likely a wrong photo was sent; a human error made by a CIA “bureaucrat.”
HA.

The CIA operative that sent the photo is Charlotte Bustos. She testified to the Church Committee under her registered pseudo name Elsie Scaleti.
Bustos was working in Langley at the Western Hemisphere Mexican desk. Her superiors are Anne Goodpasture, CI and Scelso. DOP (John Whitten)
Scelso in his Senate testimony recalled the initial response to the remarkable speed in which Elsie Scaleti found the Oswald file was one of amazement and pride.
SCELSO: After the shooting “Oswald’s name became known perhaps an hour, hour and a half. Within minutes, after that, they were out with the cables in their hands.”
Senator Schweiker: Within minutes of the name Oswald being on the radio, an officer came in the with the Oswald cables.
SCELSO: Yes. …Elsie Scaleti, who was the, sort of Majordomo of the Branch. She managed all of the records, handled all off the cables from Mexico that dealt with security suspects.
SCELSO: She was an extremely gifted woman…Scaletti was the one who handled all of the name traces and brought things to my attention.”
So…not a burned out “bureaucrat.”
DEEP SNOW is an interesting bit of lingo. Yes, visibility, but also as a metaphor of unknowable terrain with a potential for danger. I wonder what FBI LEGAT ClarkAnderson know?

Phillip Agee (interviewed in Cuba) remembers there was quite a buzz throughout the CIA because Scaleti’s quickness illustrated a high level of efficiency.
CIA officer Piccolo remarked that speed of Scaleti was a type of “coup” that lived on as a tale that snaked through the CIA “grapevine”.
However the coup lost it’s allure when it was revealed that the “wrong” photo was sent.

When CIA officer Piccolo opened the Lee Harvey Oswald 201 file; he saw two pictures of Oswald both from above and to left. When shown the MYSTERY MAN picture Piccolo stated definitely that was not the photo he saw in the 201 file.
CIA officer Watson, also saw a Oswald’s 201 file folder with photo of the true Lee Harvey Oswald in Mexico City. Watson was surprised the file was “thin”.
The reason the file is thin is that the CIA has multiple OSWALD 201 files.
Why sent this MYSTERY MAN photo to Dallas?
After all, the CIA has authentic pictures of OSWALD at the embassy.

Win SCOTT sent a cable to J.C. King
The CIA knows the identity of the Mystery Man
Does the HOOVER know the Mystery Man?
Could the MYSTERY MAN have an association with the FBI?
The FBI wants Lee Oswald to be the only “lone” communist in the world.
Two Oswalds means conspiracy.
I don’t know why the the Mystery Man picture was sent, but I know it’s effect.
This Mystery Man photo successfully functions as a “Tar baby”.
Back off this Mexico City Briar Patch, J. Edgar, you’ll get stuck and will look foolish.
The discomfort of Hoover as he discusses the Mystery Man situation with Johnson is clear; Hoover is used to controlling the investigations but is out of his element and forced to admit his confusion. Hoover knows the CIA doesn’t tell him everything, he is aware that the CIA has lied to the FBI multiple times.
The idea that the FBI knows the Mystery Man will be addressed in later post.
For now I will keep the focus on the CIA and discuss Lee HENRY Oswald. The story starts in 1959.
