Sorry John....back to E1.One last detour.I went to Bunhill Fields last Wednesday after looking around some Whitechapel Mile End Galleries.I saw Blake"s grave,Bunyan"s and Daniel Defoe"s, never been before and thought it was terrific.
Also looked round some of Wren"s City of London Churches-St Mary Abchurch,St Peter"s Cornhill etc.One by Hawksmoor St Mary Woolnoth was full of old world atmosphere---so was one in Leadenhall Street called St Katerine Cree.Its medieval and is referred to in the nursery rhyme,Oranges and Lemons----"Maids in White aprons say the bells of St Katherine"s".
It actually had two or three Jack the Ripper links---an important one being that PC Watkins would have passed it on his beat on his way to Mitre Square on the night of the double event---as might Kate Eddowes if we did but know it!.....second that JtR is mentioned in their literature viz-in their appeal for financial support to urgently restore the bells-

The church is one of very few which survived the Great Fire of London in 1666.
Nearly all the bells of this area were built at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry---another potential link to JtR via Cutbush as a branch of his family are believed to have owned the Whitechapel Bell Foundry.

I can hear the gravy train pulling into the station as we speak.

Hi Nats, how appropriate - I went there yesterday for the first time too, as part of my next project. I was surprised to see Blake's gravestone totally exposed.

Bunhill Fields certainly has a strange feel to it. It's very claustrophobic for a burial ground and all the people sitting around seemed very dour, as if waiting for something bad to happen!

It was rather spooky, I thought, even on a bright sunny day.
