May Five Leaves never say to you "Congratulations, Mr Bennett - we've sold every copy! You are now out of print".

How were your lot tonight? For Belgians, mine were pretty good!

Looks like it's going to be out in the last week of April.

A 'launch' do has now been organised at Eastside Bookshop, Brick Lane for 4th June (7.00 - 8.30pm). This is obviously a long while after the actual publication, but what the heck.

              It's a wrap.

Finally, after some frustrating printing problems, it's now ready. I've had an e-mail this morning from somebody who says their copy is being dispatched today.

I received some initial complimentary copies this morning (more to follow on Tuesday) and I have to say it looks quite nice. Simple, but nice.

Anyway, enough self-promotion, thanks for the support all. And if you get one, I hope you enjoy it.

              John

Hee hee - I was guiding with John tonight and though he's only had two copies at this stage, he's given one to his mum and the other he gave to me. I'm 1/4 of the way through it after the train journey home trying to ignore the chav pond life yelling around me.

I'm loving it, frankly. It's very accessible and written with obvious enthusiasm.

It's basically THE STREETS OF EAST LONDON by William Fishman for the new Millenia. It looks very similar photographically and in typefacing. John's writing reads like a very engaging mix of a travel guide and a WS1888 journal feature - and I suppose that's what the book IS.

Ripperisms crop up but it's not essentially about that. However, it's an A4 book of about 100 pages and it's only Ł9.99.

                    You will want it.

                            I couldn't resist this...

As I had to call myself 'John G Bennett' on the front of the book (there's already a John Bennett who writes poetry) an acquaintance kindly gave me this little paperback last night.

This particular John G Bennett died in 1974.

However, after attempting to read it on the train last night, I can say without hesitation that - here goes -

'E1: A Journey Through Whitechapel and Spitalfields' is better than Sex!

                              Book Launch

I believe that it is John's book launch today and it seemed appropriate to wish him luck and every success with his publication.
