I have just read your previous post and ask when are researchers going to stop relying on newspaper reports they are unsafe how mnay more times do people have to be told

Since most official records have been lost, upon which resource should we be relying?
Cheers, GeorgeI'm a short timer. But I can still think and have opinions. That's what I do.

When perusing newspaper articles we see so many conflciting articles on the respective topics, and we then see researchers cherry picking a particular article or a part of an arcticle to suit their theory.
The only reliable sources in my opinion are the signed inquest depositions.

So your book contains no information derived from newspapers?Originally posted by Trevor Marriott View Post

My book covers all aspects of the Ripper murders and does include newspaper reports but I draw no conclusions from their inclusion and I certainly do not cherry pick the reports to suit my own personal beliefs.Originally posted by MrBarnett View Post

So you obviously see value in newspaper reports as source material. But you told earlier us that they are unsafe.Originally posted by Trevor Marriott View Post

It sounds as though you are saying you include unsafe material that doesn’t suit your own ideas. How odd.

Trevor,
This appears on your website to support your contention that no organs were removed by the killer.
It’s a newspaper report. It supports your ‘own personal beliefs’. And you use it to contradict Coroner Baxter.
Presumably it isn’t in your book because that would go against your principles.

I am aware of that article and I do make reference to it in my book but I have also referred to other materials to support that same belief.Originally posted by MrBarnett View PostTrevor,

and for the record i have always postulated that newspapers articles are unsafe unless there is specific corroboration, which in the case of this article there clearly is and clear evidence that there was a lucrative trade in legal and illegal organs from mortuaries in 1888.

Where did you get that from another newspaper ?Originally posted by MrBarnett View PostOf course, what the ‘mysterious American’ was said to have asked for was a number of uteri, preserved in glycerine instead of the usual alcohol, and ‘sent to America direct’.
The Pall Mall Gazette’s comparison was an invalid one.

Perhaps you can point us in the direction of the specific corroboration of the prices quoted by the PMG. And let us in on the reason why you chose to use a newspaper report of a newspaper report rather than the more reliable source you discovered.Originally posted by Trevor Marriott View Post

Is is true that alcohol was 'usual'? I've never been entirely sure when and where formaldehyde would have been used, for example.Originally posted by MrBarnett View Post... preserved in glycerine instead of the usual alcohol...

Now you see in your haste to be a smart arse you didnt read my original post correctly where I stated that there was corroboration to both legal and illegal trade in organs from mortuaries. The legal side relates to organs available under the guise of The Anatomy Act.Originally posted by MrBarnett View Post

How do you know what Baxter said? Are you sure he didn’t say 20s rather than £20?
