Agreed, a number of members accepted Nick's suggestion because he was a surgeon. It just goes to show even professionals can be wrong.

There was no axe or hatchet found in the room. Nick Warren's suggestion that one may have been used was based on MJK2 from the wall behind her bed showing the inside of her left leg and what appeared to be the rough outline of a split femur (just below what was highlighted in the posts above.) What looks like a split femur bone is actually the folds of her chemise and/or bedding sheets.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph R.D. that axe is kinda scary to say the least. Did you know if you look at the handle under a microscope it says 'Property of CAL' on it... odd

Would these weapons found in Frederick Deeming's possession, have been capable of inflicting the wounds on MJK?

These exact same weapons are likely to have been the ones used to dispatch 2 of his wives.

Were they used on MJK also?

I still think the back wall has had something on it and wiped clean, certainly look like wipe marks to me. Probably those damn Juwes again...

I think the shot back across Mary from the wall POV was shot with a remote shutter, and the photographer either ducked or stepped left out of frame.

That is unless something has been moved between shots.

In the photo we see what appears to be her left hand; but there is clearly something on the table that would have obscured her left hand in the original shot.

Has the authenticity of the photo been definitively confirmed?

The clarity of the shot to me looks a modern mock-up of the scene.

I was under the impression that there was only one shot taken of MJK; the one we all know as taken on the day of the murder itself.

Actually there are several glass plates that were used in that room that day, we generally see MJK1 and MJK3 used here. But apparently, as Ive been told from someone who has seen a plate, they were numbered "1 of 6". It would seem possible that perhaps undeveloped or unreleased images of that room are around somewhere.

Seems odd to be responding to a post you made 7 years ago Sam, but I wanted to add a bit. I think you are correct, that a camera was placed on that bunched up bedding between the bed and the wall. Remote shutter using a bulb likely. I also thing the space it created was already there...I dont see Mary having that bed Flush to the partition wall normally, she would have had to have some room on the far side to be able to make the bed. I think he bunched and stuffed the bedding down there when he prepared to carve Mary up. He cuts her throat, struggles with he a bit as she fades. Then when she has succumbed to the blood loss and blacked out, he flips her onto her back, grabs the blankets and stuffs them down by the far side of the bed....and presumably rolls up his sleeves.

I dont mean to be graphic needlessly, I think we need to recreate how things were accomplished physically to understand the scene, and the killer, better.

Possibly, although I can't rule out the possibility that MJK3 was cropped.

    Just a knife

I don't think an axe is necessary. Apparently, just a knife is needed. Although I have trouble slicing a roast - probably has more to do with my cooking. Anyway the below link shows the correct use of a knife in butchery. Quite horribly similar with the wounds inflicted on Mary Kelly.
