1881 census
James Kelly same address with wife and both daughters still.

This is the daughter of Henry Kelly, a labourer of Upper Keate St and his wife, Sarah.

Yep.
Not my Mary Kelly,but the next closest to the one in 1881 Census age wise.

The problem at the moment is that although the names are a fairly close match, nothing else matches the MJK story. So we're happy to ignore the Irish, Carmarthenshire and Wales connections, for example, on the pursuit of the names whereas the opposite may be true. It is absolutely possible that Kelly's back story is completely fabricated but it is also possible that her true name wasn't anything like Mary Jane Kelly. I'm stating the obvious, of course, and all angles are fair game for exploration - I just think the likelihood of the Shoreditch Kelly's being able to be shown as correct is not that great.

Although the Place of Birth shows as Whitechapel, I wouldn't necessarily discount this on a census taken at somewhere like the Whitechapel Infirmary. My thinking is that it's unlikely the person completing the return went round every inmate getting accurate details and so probably made an educated guess in some cases. Shouldn't have done so obviously, but human nature being what it is...

Well I do have a Mary Kelly who in the 1881 census was in the "Infirmary of The Whitechapel Union" Bakers Row. She is aged 23 (so born around 1858) and her place of birth Whitechapel. Occupation is shown as prostitute. Obviously it isn't possible to tell why she is in there so there must also be an admission/discharge record which might possibly show a home address. Hard to say, otherwise, whether this is the Shoreditch Mary Ann Kelly (and birth year and place of birth potentially are slightly different).

Date of admission was 16 March 1881 from Castle Alley.
Single prostitute.
Syphilis
Church of England
Discharged 26 April 1881.

It's not possible to tell religion from the census report.

I believe, however, that the Shoreditch Kellys were C of E since the children, including Mary Ann were baptised at St Leonard's. I have a birth date of 27th April 1859 and baptism date of 22nd May 1859 for this Mary Ann Kelly..

My Mary was still 21.
Possibly the same person though.
