I would certainly not dare to make such an assertion on the grounds that you do. Having the testimony presented to the Coroner (when there is no supporting evidence that happened) would give what Schwartz said a wholly different standing. I think that would be misleading and unsustainable.

    Sorry to disagree.

Haha! Disagree all you want. That's what this stuff is all about. And to be honest, if the statement was presented to the coroner, I don't think it made a ton of difference to the answers of the questions: where did she die? and Was she murdered?

      Thanks Caz.

I know how far the data by itself goes Phil. Exercises, exercises exercises. So where would you put your money? Instinct is important for an investigator.

        standard form

        Hello Jon. Thanks.

""Squealed" - meaning, in this case, "to make a noise that drew attention.""

Ah, standard form. Very well. But not loud?

        Cheers.

This coyness, Star, were no crime.

          Hello (again) Jon. Thanks.

"If the Star concocted the story why send it to the Central News Agency and not their own offices?"

Professor Cook covered this in his book. The two entities were bitter enemies. Send it to yourself--suspect whom? But send it to CNA . . .

"Why is it not mentioned in the Star on the 2nd Oct, the day after it was received at the CNA?"

"The Star" went out of their way to be coy and deny both "Jack" missives; however, they milked it for all it was worth.

          Cheers.

            mending language

            Hello Caroline. Thanks.

"Yet you can't get from three not very loud screams to a bit of squealing?"

The problem for me is a "not loud scream". Something there is that doesn't love an oxymoron.

            Cheers.

              Ich schlafe.

              Hello Michael.

At my age, "bed" indicates only one operation.

              Cheers.

Instinct is important for an investigator.

So it maybe, but an historian uses evidence and there are certain quite simple but universally accepted standards for evaluating and using sources. I stick to those.

I guess the Star had a reporter hanging around outside Leman St Police station following developments.
There's an account somewhere that mentions reporters hanging around inside the police station(s) waiting by the desk to pick up on conversations.

                      Thanks Jon.

I also remember another account where the newspaper is comparing the City Police with the Met with regard to helpfulness towards tthe press. The press were literally asking the Desk Sergeant for news.

Yes. It is possible to scream at different levels of volume, just as we can shout at various volume levels.

Imagine you`re directing Fay Wray arriving on Skull Island when one of the natives jumps out on her and you ask her to scream.
The next day you`re directing her again, this time it`s the scene where Kong appears for the first time and you ask her to SCREAM.

But, as has been mentioned in this thread, we`re reading a Hungarian translation, and not a short essay by Dickens.

Only because we all project differently. All screams will be loud just at different decibels...unless someone is choking you.

                            Which is Cook`s book?
Is it a reference book or a theory book?

Indeed Mike. My gut feeling is he was swinging around her by her scarf.

Quite. But ALL volumes for a scream are loud.

                                Cheers.
