If certain people would do their utmost to shore up their own sagging credibility by baring their fangs and holding me responsible for what they post, I'm not sure they'd need any encouragement.

"Very good reason" - I liked that.
I agree. I trust she had good reason too, especially when we consider that she studied the actual documents, the importance of which has been highlighted by Crystal and others elsewhere in this thread.
All the best,
Ben
It's a pity you didn't read me right the first time I said as much. Too quick on the personal trigger finger, perchance?
I have quite a bit of admiration for you actually. I mean, anyone who can reconcile Sue's 'definitely' with Crystal's advice not to take any expert seriously if their opinions stray into 'definite' territory, should be on Britain's Got Talent, not fannying around on this Godforsaken thread. Any clues as to how you managed a trick like that?
Originally posted by babybird67 View PostAlso, just as a funny story, when my hubby and i were dating, we had gone to his bank to cash a cheque (remember those?) It was really odd. The cashier looked at him and said, "could you sign again please," which he duly did. This still wasn't enough to satisfy her so she had him sign a few more times. She then went and got the supervisor and explained what was going on.
The supervisor showed him the sig they had for him on record (what a security breach!) and actually gave it to him, leaving it on the counter for him to copy!!!! Her exact words were, "Can you try to sign a bit more like that."
They obviously knew my husband was the genuine account holder as we used it regularly, yet for some reason on this occasion they would not accept his sig.
This may be just a case of what's known in the trade as covering arses. It happens quite often where the bank staff may have no personal doubt whatsoever that the customer is who he says he is, but are more concerned that nobody further along the processing chain can flag up a problem with the signature and have the employee(s) for breakfast for accepting it. "Can you try to sign a bit more like that (so my head's not on the line tomorrow, now my cashier has seen fit to query it)" is a typical cover-my-arse plea.
Originally posted by Sam Flynn View PostHi BB,The full quote translates to: "You seek power? You seek to multiply yourself by ten, a hundred... a thousand? Then seek zeroes." It's a play on words. In the same sense that one can give the illusion of increasing the "power" of a number by adding zeroes onto it (e.g. 1 + 000 = 1,000), a person who craves power can recruit "zeroes" - or "nobodies" - to support his cause. Nietzsche was a perceptive and acerbic commentator on human behaviour!
"Suche Nullen", appropriated as my "motto" for Ripperology, embodies my strong conviction that we should be looking for a "nobody". Don't expect to find me championing the cause of a "celebrity suspect", on that basis
Please tell me you are not such a person 'who craves power' by recruiting "nobodies" - ie the thousands upon thousands of nameless, faceless potential ripper suspects - to support your own cause. That wouldn't be so much shi**ing on your own doorstep, as doing it through your own rusty keyhole and onto your antique Chinese silk hall carpet.
Party pooper? Moi?

All you're doing now is looking for opportunities to annoy me. You do it pretty ponderously, and I obviously don't covet your opinion of my credibility, but the salient point is your belief that Iremonger had "very good reason" to arrive at the conclusion she did. The rest is just you "fannying around on this Godforsaken thread".

looking for an unbelievable famous suspect would be a greater waste of time.
In fact, "nobodies" or "unknown locals" may not be the proper expressions.
What is meant here is that JtR might be a low class East Ender.
Such a category includes people like Barnett, Fleming, Lechmere, Hardiman, etc.

hi David
thank you for that.
I understand what you mean.
But what if he really were someone completely unknown and off the radar?
Would put some of the "sparring" on here in a totally different light wouldn't it?
Arguing over a chimera?
I like to acknowledge that sometimes, since so much about human knowledge is essentially "unknown"...we just think we know it all!

Hi Malcolm!
You write:
"according to the 6 replies; they all match Hutch...... "
...and I am not sure what to think of the laughing faces accompanying it all? Did you consult six document examiners and/or experts and did you have them all tell you that the signatures match? And which signatures are we speaking of?
Could you elaborate, please?
The best,
Fisherman

Mike (wisely) advices:
"Don't play along. We know the answer already, eh?"
We do, Mike - but I´m a sucker for any added information that may surface. I think this thread may well represent one of the biggest breakthroughs in later years, and so I keep my ear to the ground.
...but I am more than willing to retract both my ear and the rest of me as long as there is nothing useful around here. And if I ever forget the benefits involved in that attitude, please do remind me again!
Thanks, Mike!

Good morning Fisherman! I've missed you!
Sigh. Still here, aren't we?
Ben, when you emerge - How dare they tease you? It's outrageous!
Malcolm - I don't get to send signatures off, mate - I have to do them myself. Oh, if only I could just do that, how easy life would be!
Have a good day, all x
