A man, apparently of the labouring class, but of a military appearance
What does “of military appearance” mean?

That depends totally on who you ask, Harry...

Nothing specific, I'm afraid, although I think it's safe to say that he wasn't a middle-aged slob with a knackered back, gammy legs and a stubbly chin.
        Kind regards, Sam Flynn

A straight back and an otherwise clean and respectable look is what I would expect this to mean - but as you will be aware, some would say that a sturdy man in a wideawake would be the safest bet...

Hutchinson was accompanied by Abberline for several days searching for the man. So during that time Abberline would almost have certainly been asking him questions and yet in all that time is fooled by Hutchinson?

Joseph Issacs was reported by Mary Cusins. He matched the astrakhan description. He was arrested in December but apparently was in jail at the time of Kelly's murderer. So police seemed to be arresting people matching Hutchinson's description.
Bona fide canonical and then some.

              Hi Batman
is there anything documented that Isaacs in particular or any other men in general were arrested later on because they specifically matched hutches suspect?

                Moustaches and beards, apparently.
Google says officers wore particular moustaches and beards, and the rank and file had their own styles.

                • Batman: Hutchinson was accompanied by Abberline for several days searching for the man. So during that time Abberline would almost have certainly been asking him questions and yet in all that time is fooled by Hutchinson?

To begin with, Abberline would not have occupied himself accompanying Hutchinson around London, looking for Astrakhan man - other people would help out with that.
Reasonably, questions were asked by Hutchinson all along, although the bulk of them would have been asked during his interrogation.
I have not at any stage implied that Abberline or anybody else within the police were fooled by Hutchinson - that would imply foul play on his behalf, and I have spent many years out here saying that Hutchinson probably spoke the truth.

So it would seem you have misunderstood me on all points possible to misunderstand. No prize is awarded for this, though, in spite of the valid effort.

Joseph Issacs was reported by Mary Cusins. He matched the astrakhan description. He was arrested in December but apparently was in jail at the time of Kelly's murderer. So police seemed to be arresting people matching Hutchinson's description.

And he was arrested for what, Batman? Resembling Hutchinsons description? Or for stealing a watch?
I am convinced that the police sought for Astrakhan man high and low after Hutchinsons appearance - initially as the potential Ripper, and then as a witness from the evening before the murder.

From reading about Joseph Denny and Joseph Isaacs it seems that how they looked contributed to them being sought after in connection with the murder of MJK. Isaacs being a petty thief was already caught up in arrests at the time. Denny on that he looked like Hutchinson's man and was accosting women.

yes but is there anything documented in writing that they were suspects because they matched the description specifically of hutchs suspect Aman?

Abberline's involvement. He interviewed Isaacs for example.

That was probably because Isaacs was already a person of interest, not because he was extravagantly dressed.
