Sorry, but I genuinely don't have a real suspect! Nothing that I have seen steers me with any confidence towards truly suspecting any single individual. I recognise possibilities, persons of interest certainly, but no convincing suspect. If the truth ever does come out, I think it may well be someone we've never heard about.
Hi Doc,
If the poll were asking us to rank persons of interest rather than suspects, would you then be able to make list? In my discussion of the case, I tend to not distinguish between the two, though technically, there's a difference. All of my suspects are probably more properly called persons of interest rather than suspects.
I have a suggestion for the tabulation of the results: if 2 suspects have the same number of points but one was mentioned on more ballots than the other, rank the one on more ballots ahead of the other.

Good suggestion Lewis. I’ll go with that.
In cricket we have the Duckworth Lewis method of deciding the result of a game that’s been cut short by rain. This one is just The Lewis Method.

Interesting suggestion, Lewis, especially noting that you regard your "suspects" as more like "persons of interest".
My problem is that I can't help seeing JtR as not just a cold blooded killer, which others do, but as one who knew exactly what he was doing, as if he had done it many times before. He was highly skilled with a very sharp knife 6-8 inches or longer - that is a fairly rare talent. That, coupled with the fact the he used the m. o. of an experienced slaughterer with the throat slitting and the clear understanding of how to do it while avoiding getting blood on his person, plus the speed at which he worked, the fact that he seemed to know where various organs were, and how to remove them, convinces me that he had a fair amount of experience as a butcher/slaughterer. This, to my way of thinking, rules out almost all of the usual suspects!
I don't know enough at the moment about potential suspects with this level of expertise to make a list, but I am thinking about it! There actually were a significant number of men in the East End or thereabouts with this experience, and we know only a little about very few of them.
Sorry, but I am not helping this thread, which except for my comments, is actually very interesting.

You still have plenty of time to think about it Doc.

Thanks for validating my assessment of your approach to all things jtr.
Where's my " Cheers Fishy" with the thumbs up like you gave John ?. Hence why I ask first to even post, I knew that smug response was coming . But I guess we can't have fishys opinion on the topic can we .
There suspects Herlock, just like Cutbush, Druitt and Bury .

Same here, Doc! I'm stuck in the middle between 'someone like Thompson' and the butcher/slaughterer you describe in another post.

The obvious problem is that there’s always an agenda with your posts Fishy. I don’t know why you can simply discus the case without getting wrapped up in the people posting. You have always proposed Gull so there is no issue there but you have never expressed any interest in Thompson. All that you’ve said recently is pretty much “Herlock has his opinion and Richard has his, etc.” But just because of the fact that I’ve posted against this you suddenly find Thompson the second strongest suspect.
I’ve added your votes.
Cheers Fishy
