    sound

Hello Velma. I think those are all sound assumptions. And I think it must have been a fairly vigourous business to have hired boys for the work.

    Cheers.

      options

Hello Greg. Well, if so, it might be that the pub's name were included. Another good guess is that they were sold. Those who could not afford to buy one could perhaps put down a deposit and "rent" one.

      Cheers.

        suggestion

        Hello Velma.

"if pot boys went around and picked them up outside doors, how did they know where to return them?"

A sensible suggestion. Given the proliferation of area pubs, the only other solution would be for each pub to use a trademark kind/colour.

        Cheers.

Where did the suggestion of a "Pail" come from?

I understood Blotchy was said to have carried a "can" or "pot" of ale, or beer.

I had always understood it to mean the typical pewter-type beer mug.

            My top 5 would be:

            01. Severin Klosowski
            02. James Kelly
            03. William H. Bury
            04. Hyam Hyams
            05. Jacob Levy
            Best regards,

But should not that fact have been alluded to when his description was given?
It may have been, but wasn't in the papers. If Blotchy wanted to be covert, I don't think walking with a drunken, loud Kelly, carrying a pot of beer, and letting anyone who might want to get a good look at him, was the way to do it.
Regardless, he left and Kelly either went out and got at least one more, or one more came to her. Blotchy must have been scared sh$tless when he read the papers.

Whether the pot was empty or contained beer is not known.Either way it would make little difference. It is not knpwn how or where Kelly and Blotchy met, what is of importance is the fact that both entered Millers Court at about midnight. It is possible that, being alone on leaving premises, she asked to be accompanied home by someone she was aquainted with.Someone inside or outside such premises.Lots of possibilities.

                  Harry,

I agree. It makes no difference to me either. It's quite possible that Blotchy escorted Kelly or that Kelly tossed him out, freshened up a bit and went on her way. What matters is that Blotchy left... or so accounts of further activity lead us/me to believe. Nice to see back here, Harry. hope all is well.

Hello Michael. I am sure Blotchy wished to remain anonymous. Of course, we cannot be sure of the nature of his business with MJK. All we have is speculation.

                    Cheers.

Right. He may have been a beer salesman.

Hello Michael. Well, if so, he drank up all the profits.

I am sure you are aware that Blotchy's description matches that of Red Jim McDermott?

                        Cheers.

Yes Lynn. You mentioned that before and posted a drawing of him. I think you meant to post a photo.

What was his connection to the Court? An Irish last name, sure. Maybe a McCarthy crony?

Hello Michael. He was a British spy. He had worked for Sir Edward Jenkinson.

just googled it, it would hold loads of beer, it looks just like an ice bucket!

we've no idea how full it was, the only things we know is that she was already drunk before entering no 13 and singing on till 1am.

Blotchy looks like a drinking companion from the pub, this would also be the perfect way to gain access to her room as JTR, (considering that MJK is a boozer), this is far safer than to attempt this mutilation out on the street, to someone else.

but for this to work, i think Blotchy needs to leave and to return again later on at 4am, but in a scenario like this GH looks way more guilty.

I agree with all this. Even the GH looking guiltier would seem accurate had he not been an upstanding family man later in life.
