Hello Maria. I was speaking only of the major suspects--Druitt, Kosminski, Tumblety, LeGrand, Klosowski, etc.

Are you saying the Ripper community has missed the boat on this aspect of the case?

    Cheers.

    • I would take Druitt out of that list. (And there's been other short-lived but documented contemporary suspects, such as Sadler, Gainger, D'Onston, even Ostrog, about whom we recently got reminded that he used a gun on police a couple times.)

Not sure which aspect you're referring to?

PS.: Lynn, I'm worried a bit about the AF printouts. I truly hope they're legible.
      Best regards,
      Maria

      • on the other hand

Hello Maria. But my point is that astute gentleman like Jonathan Hainsworth, John Ruffles and Andrew Spallek would beg to differ.

There were obviously several individuals in Autumn, 1888 capable of murder; some were also capable of mutilation. The REAL sticking point is whether they in fact did so.

        Cheers.

Possibly. Except Blotchy had a lighter moustache. His description tallies with Red Jim McDermott's.

They could both be blotchy faced. After all, their line of work paid exceedingly well and afforded much good food and drink.

          Cheers.

          hi lynn

all of these guys could lighten a moustache to be sailor boy, ok you'd look a bit odd, but i doubt that Eddowes would mind, but it's unlikely that our suspect is blotchy face.... Simply because he was seen way too well with her, plus too early in the evening and looks too drunk too !

if this killer is a dark faced Brit/ European and looks older than his years, then due to the tight timing with regards to Eddowes, we have a problem Houston, he must have come along later, disguised his face with make up, or Lawende messed up what he saw...totally !..... but if so why didn't his mates mention this.

but this guy is ok for ANNIE CHAPMAN, STRIDE ( because her killer cant be identified anyway, plus we have a suspect that looks like a bank clerk too, plus also an older style sailor boy, the one that said ``you'd say anything but your prayers`` etc) plus he's ok for MJK, because he can either be the S.LEWIS suspect, the one that she sais that she saw in the papers after the 10th, or even LA DE DA himself.

whatever the case, we keep seeing a semi posh/shabby genteel foreign looking suspect that has been mentioned from the 10th nov onwards, in fact right through this murder case, there is also that idiot seen carrying a black bag and scaring women on purpose, what a thick muppet he was, this guy will be an upper class toff from the WEST END pretending to be JTR, so i think we can ignore him !!!!!

but this guy that keeps sneaking in and out under our radar could easily be G.Chapman or someonme like LE GRAND, with a 50% error in suspect description

our biggest problem here is the Lawende sighting, and all the crap that goes with GH, but i have to fight this out with BEN next year because right now i'm fed up thinking about him, i've had enough of this rubbish about him...i need to recharge my batteries

Chapman/ druitt/le grand or some irish bloke is ok, just watch out for this lawende suspect

          • difficulties

Hello Malcolm. As I see it, the difficulties are these.

            1. To ascertain REAL sightings of the victims as opposed to mistaken ones.

            2. To verify the accuracy of the reports of people seen with the victims in the REAL cases.

            3. To keep our propensity in check as human beings to lump things together.

For me, not an easy task.

            Good luck.

            Cheers.

I'd say the biggest problem facing Ripperologists is that some view evidence as a 'problem' and not an opportunity for insight and understanding.

              • parallels

                Hello Tom. Well spoke.

Drawing a parallel with the Phoenix Park murders, once the case was solved, all the seeming contradictory evidence came together and fit like a hand in a glove. The lone report of a car going east, not west? Turns out there were 2 cars. 3 different reports of car colour? Some were poor witnesses. There were even 2 sets of surgical instruments--and Mallon had the wrong set.

                Cheers.

I'm very interested in the aforementioned gentlemen's research on Druitt, but I don't consider him as capable of murder.

                    Hello Maria. Murder, perhaps; mutilation?

Of course, we are just beginning to get a "feel" for Druitt.

                    Cheers.

                    • OK, so the mad pork butcher killed Nichols and Chapman. Le Grand killed Stride and Eddowes. And I guess that leaves Fleming as Kelly's killer.

Newland Smith killed MacKenzie and Sadler killed Coles. Mystery solved.

                      • and then . . .

Hello Scott. I don't see Liz and Kate together.

Fleming is an attractive choice for whomever died in Miller's Court. But there are many questions to be answered--as I'm sure you know. In particular, what do we know about Sir Ed's "Miss Worth" and Alice Carroll?

Before any case gets closed, MUCH more evidence must be presented.

                        Cheers.

                        • Scott,

Your research and deductive reasoning have clearly gone south. It should be obvious that Le Grand killed Eddowes and spent the next week or so stirring things up in Berner Street to get at the guy who stole part of his thunder. Fanny Mortimer killed Stride. Where have you been?

                          Yours truly,

                          Tom Wescott

That's very nearly correct, in my opinion.
