Hello Joseph!
When I read about this case for the first time in the 1970s - it was only shortly mentioned in the articles about The Yorkshire Ripper - I thought him to be a copper...
However, I am not so sure anymore.
But; he was someone, we have never even been thinking about!
All the best

The only reason I can think for thinking JtR was a policeman would be because of how the Ripper got away with murder (literally), but anyone could've killed and gotten away with it in those days, all they had to do was be quick and discreet, which Jack obviously was. There's nothing sinister or even clever about him in that respect.

I'm still undecided on this. Until recently, i believed it was Tumblety, but following research I now see that as highly unlikely.
Montague John Druitt was someone I also suspected at one point, but again, research has put that theory to rest.
It's probably someone that neither we, nor anyone involved on the case in a professional sense has considered.

At various times I've favoured Druitt then Fleming and after the opening of Broadmoor files a little while ago Cutbush, but I am now leaning towards Francis Thompson as a man with medical training and mental problems and a fascination with murder who was known to have associated with Eastend prostitutes, including an ill fated relationship in the summer of 1888.

Joe Fleming is intersting... as for Hutch...well
i think Hutch more likely than Fleming and no they're not both the same person, because those Hutch signatures match.
i'm still highly suspicious of G Chapman too, so who do i vote for? or do i go for Blotchy face, who could be Fleming
oh you've got to laugh, right; i'm voting for G.Chapman and i dont give a damn what anyone thinksLast edited by Malcolm X; 03-22-2009, 04:25 AM.

I also voted other becose i dont believe we have seen the name of the ripper yet. He was so anonomus in his own time that he was never caught I think he will remain that way for a long time to come.'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - beer in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride!'

Nobody
I am like the many others who have also chosen other. I have been a firm believer that James Kelly was J the R. But there have been so many convincing arguements for others eg: Cutbush with Uncle's help, Hutchinson
and even the Lodger whoever he was.
I don't know anymore, however I firmly believe that the authorities at the time knew for sure who he was. Therefore there is a famikly member somewhere who either has yet to discover the info, or they know but for obvious reasons would not wish to disclose the truth about his or her family.
I refuse to believe that his identity was not then known.
Call me stubborn but that is my GUT feeling after reading so many fine books and magazines on the infamous JtR.
