Yeah I know WASPs. I'm marrying one, my sister married one. You might say I'm surrounded. The United Nations that is these photographs were selected because the people in them were by and large not American. I've had more than 8 friends.

Would odds would you give me for betting she's human? I understand that it must be shorter odds than betting on her nationality, but if you can give me 3-1 on I'll have a couple of hundred quid on it.

But to wrap this up:
my first friend is the reason why it never occurred to me to hate Muslims. We grew up together. She is Persian, from Iran. Her father was the Shah's cardiologist, and he was in France with the Shah when she was born. He has a death sentence on his head. She has gone home a few times to try and get relatives out.
The second photo is me, a half Scot Half Russian Jew mutt. The woman with me is South African, first generation American.
The last photo is from L-R
-Half French Half Somali. Black Somali. Somali citizen. According to whatever unwritten rules (or written ones) around here, that makes her black. Talk about passing...
-Irish, Irish and US citizen.
-Me again, mutt. (it was the early 90s, don't judge)
-English, First generation American, given an Irish name that no one can explain.
-English/French, British Citizen. Not surprising since London is the 8th largest French city
-Spanish, Spanish citizen
-Ukrainian, Ukrainian citizen, never got American citizenship but got German citizenship when she moved there a few years ago.
hmm. I said four mutts. I should have said three.
The Jews are me, the South African, The Spaniard and the Ukrainian. Of us four, the only one who has the stereotypical look even a little is the Ukrainian. Except the Irish guy who gets asked if he's Jewish all the time. He's not.
The Ukrainian looks Italian, the Irishman looks French, maybe Spanish, the Spaniard looks English, I look Irish, and the "black" girl looks white. The description of a stereotypical Jew would most likely fit the Persian or the Irishman. Possibly the Ukrainian. This is my point. "Looking Jewish" is a matter of features, not a matter of fact. If you only look at the Jews, you will see the rest of us Jews in these photos as a waste of time. And you would be right. But if someone said they saw a Jew, don't look at me. Look at the Persian Muslim, The atheist Irishman, and the Ukrainian Jew. Because your typical guy who saw "a Jew" saw one of them.

Outside chance of being Italian, but probably not.
She looks to me to be from Southern Europe on the Eastern side. I'll go Bulgaria...
Where's me prize? And forget the clock, I want cold hard money.
I would give you money for getting it right, but she's actually super easy. Especially if you know the immigrant demographic of Nashville. Guess the girl in the group photo wearing khakis and a white shirt, and I will absolutely send you 10 bucks.

Originally posted by Fleetwood Mac View PostDunno, but one thing I can tell you, Errata, is that the bonny lass in the red is not English, and that's the whole point of the thread. Not: "here are all my mates, which one of them hails from Outer Mongolia".
Secondly, we have been discussing whether or not there is a Jewish look, there are four Jews in the photos, so people who believe that Jews look a certain way are free to point them out as well.
Third, two of them are in fact English, fresh off the boat English so to speak, so I'm sure you guys can pick out your brethren. And none of them are from Outer Mongolia, or even minor countries. In fact, they are all from countries actually discussed in this thread. Well, except one. The woman in the wedding dress is South African. Well, she's American, her parents are South African.
The press said "foreign". Not witnesses. So the witnesses were clearly not hedging their bets. The police should have, and that's what I said. Other ethnicities "look Jewish" according to the stereotype. Phenotypes outside of Eastern European. People said they could tell. I'm still waiting.

But isn't that the point, they would know a foreigner when they saw one in their own backyard.

Most of us are like that, give or take the odd left-wing type who eats a croissant and thinks he/she (usually a she) is French and dresses accordingly.

I'm sat in a pair of cords, a set of black brogue shoes, a jumper made in the US (Gant), and a Barbour coat hanging on the door. Now, imagine that look: would an Australian or an American really dress like that? It's a monumental no from all four corners of the earth. The English have a long history of taking other people's ideas and melding them into our own view of life. We do this very well, whether it's music or clothes or anything.

I'm guessing that they are all ether immigrants or recent arrivals [ie first or second generation], and isn't that the point no one said the person I saw [Jacky] was X just he was foreign or Jewish.
