  • Family man or Bachelor boy?

    Hi all...

Just wanted to ask an age old question, that I felt like reigniting again...

Was the Ripper married and did he have kids?

I know that's technically 2 questions, but you get the idea.

The reason I ask is because I wanted to ascertain how the answer to that question can impact on our overall perception of what kind of man the Ripper was.

Does an element of bias sway your perception either way; depending on whether you favour a particular suspect?

How does the possibility that he may have had a wife and kids affect your opinions on the case?

What is there to both support AND counter BOTH ideas; that he was a family man OR a lone bachelor?

    No

I am biased against the Ripper being Dr. Barnardo. He was married with children of course.

If he was married, which is very doubtful, he must have been separated from his wife and any children. Too many suspicions would have been raised if he was living in a family situation.
Why a four-year-old child could understand this report! Run out and find me a four-year-old child, I can't make head or tail of it.

Unmarried, or separated, would be my guess. Kids? Probably not.

Where do the questions was he married? And did he have kids actually get us? Are we supposed to rule suspects in or out according to the answers of these questions?

Or we could choose to not ask questions and that gets nowhere just as quick

For those interested in suspectology, it is another point for evaluating the likelihood of suspects.

He most likely either lived alone or lived with someone who didn't dare question him about things.

Could he even play a bass guitar?

He wasn't murdering his victims at home, so the crimes do not preclude the fact that he could be married with children. Any reason to be out late would suffice. Some partners live in denial. But things obviously would be less complicated if he were single.

And where did he keep the missing organs? Did he eat them on his way back?

I would err on the side that he was probably single but this is a very good point. Sonia Sutcliffe, wife of the Yorkshire ripper certainly was in denial, constantly giving him alibi's , telling the police Peter wasn't the ripper and leave us alone, after at least one interview etc. Even after he admitted his offences she couldn't take it in properly.

Also i believe one of the three leading forensic psychologists in the country who the police use [ sorry her name escapes me ] , believes that the ripper was possibly married but his relationship was not the norm , similar to the Sutcliffe's with Sonia being diagnosed as being schizophrenic.

Could a break up of his marriage have sent Jack down his destructive path ? Especially if his wife had to prostitute herself ?

                            Regards Darryl

No, but there was a lot of banjo music heard around about that time.
